Gourdon (; oc, Gordon) is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in southeastern France. Gourdon offers panoramic views. History and geography In the distant past, this isolated rock was used as a place of refuge and defence. Gourdon, as it appears to us today, gives a good example of a Feudal village. It is built on a peak with impressive slopes down to the river Loup. There is only one entrance, from which you can access the main street. In former times, it was defended by a simple and harmonious Roman gate, that had been demolished at the beginning of the 20th century. Thick, high ramparts close off the North side, which is the only point from which the village can be approached. Population Tourism The castle is one of Gourdon's most important features. Gourdon (; oc, Gordon) is a commune in the Lot department in south-western France. The small town, Gourdon, close to Rocamadour, is situated in the south west region of France. Gourdon has a rich prehistoric past, and a high concentration of prehistoric sites. Gourdon is the capital of the Bouriane, the natural region part of the Quercy, which extends up to the river Dordogne and neighbours the Périgord. Geography The town lies in the middle of the commune, above the right bank of the Bléou, a stream tributary of the Céou, which forms most of the commune's southern border. Gourdon Glacier () is a glacier long on the east side of James Ross Island, flowing southeast into Markham Bay between Saint Rita Point and Rabot Point. It has a conspicuous rock wall at its head. Gourdon Peninsula () is a snow-covered peninsula long, forming the southeast side of Lapeyrere Bay on the northeast coast of Anvers Island, in the Palmer Archipelago, Antarctica. Jean-François Gourdon (born Paris, 28 September 1954) is a former French rugby union player. He played as a wing. His is professionally a consultant on risk management and an insurance broker. He is the son of a Ukrainian mother and a French father. Club career Gourdon played for Paris Université Club, from 1966/67 to 1972/73. He moved to Racing Club de France, where he played from 1973/74 to 1975/76, and afterwards to Stade Bagnérais, since 1976/77. He was suspended from competition in 1977/78, but returned to Stade Bagnérais in 1978/79. He was runners-up of the Top 14 in 1978/79 and 1980/81. One of the best French players of his generation, he was voted "Best wing" by the weekly ''Midy Olympique'' for five times, in 1974, 1975, 1976, 1979 and 1980.
