Gotlands Fotbollförbund
The Gotlands Fotbollförbund ''(Gotland Football Association)'' is one of the 24 district organisations of the Swedish Football Association. It administers lower tier football on the island of Gotland. Background Gotlands Fotbollförbund, commonly referred to as Gotlands FF, is the governing body for football in the county of Gotland. The Association was founded on 27 February 1921 and currently has 32 member clubs. Based in Visby, the Association's Chairman is Hans Rosengren. Gotland is a member of the International Island Games Association and the Gotland football team has taken part in Football at the Island Games. Visby
Visby () is an urban area in Sweden and the seat of Gotland Municipality in Gotland County on the island of Gotland with 24,330 inhabitants . Visby is also the episcopal see for the Diocese of Visby. The Hanseatic city of Visby is arguably the best-preserved medieval city in Scandinavia, and, since 1995, it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Among the most notable historical remains are the long town wall that encircles the town center, and a number of church ruins. The decline as a Hanseatic city in the Late Middle Ages was the cause why many stone houses were preserved in their original medieval style. Visby is a popular vacation destination for Scandinavians during the summer and receives thousands of tourists every year. FC Gute, previously named ''Visby IF Gute'', is a Swedish football club located in Visby on the island of Gotland. They currently play in the fourth-tier league Division 2 Norra Svealand. Background The club was formed in 1904 as ''Visby IF Gute'', and in November 2007 changed name to the present name FC Gute. The club plays in the Division 2 Norra Svealand which is the fourth tier of the Swedish football league system. The District Football Associations are the local governing bodies of association football in Sweden. District FAs exist to govern all aspects of local football in their defined areas, providing grassroots support to the Swedish Football Association by promoting and administering football, futsal and beach soccer in their respective districts. Most of the 24 District FAs align roughly with the boundaries of the historic Provinces of Sweden, although Stockholm FA and Gothenburg FA cover the two major cities and their immediate conurbations. Division 6 (Amateur league) is the eighth (due to sponsorship reason) level in the league system of Swedish football and comprises 78 sections with 5 to 12 football teams in each. The competition There are 100 groups of 15 to 17 teams each representing a local geographical area. During the course of a season (starting in April and ending in October) each club plays the others twice, once at their home ground and once at that of their opponents, for a total of 18 to 22 games depending on the number of teams. The top team in each Division 6 group is promoted to Division 5. The bottom two teams in each Division 6 group are normally relegated to Division 7.
