Gori ( ka, გორის მუნიციპალიტეტი, ''Goris municiṗaliṫeṫi'') is a district of Georgia (country), Georgia, in the region of Shida Kartli. After abolishment of former South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast, the Gori District included the territory of former Tskhinvali District. Some northern territories of the district are part of a self-proclaimed republic of South Ossetia and have not been under control of the Georgian government since 1992. It is bordered by the municipalities of Kaspi Municipality, Kaspi to the east, Borjomi Municipality, Borjomi and Tsalka Municipality, Tsalka to the south, and Kareli Municipality, Kareli to the west. The area of Gori municipality is 1352 km2 and the population is 125,692 people. The administrative center of the municipality is the city of Gori, Georgia, Gori. Zemo Nikozi is a village in central Georgia (shida kartli) near the Russian and south Ossetian military forces' check-point. It is the birthplace of Patriarch Kyrion II of Georgia. Nikozi is One of Georgia's oldest villages and home to early Christian churches and historical monuments. Nikozi is selected for the 5th Animation International Film Festival September. 2015. The annual Nikozi International Animated Film Festival will be held at the Episcopal Palace of the Nikozi Monastery. The Palace was completely destroyed in the 2008 August war however the festival has given the area new life and become a cultural centre for the town's youth. There is Nikozi Art School in the city.
