Gordonia (film)
''Gordonia'' is a 2010 documentary film directed and produced by New Zealand filmmaker Tom Reilly. Filmed over the course of seven years ''Gordonia'' follows the struggle between west Auckland landowner Graham Gordon and the former Waitakere City Council over Gordon's car wrecking business and illegal dwellings. As well as Gordon's story, the film traces the lives of several tenants living on his property, some of whom have mental health problems and claim to have nowhere else to live. Waitakere City
Waitākere City was a territorial authority in West Auckland, New Zealand; it was governed by the Waitākere City Council from 1989 to 2010. It was New Zealand's fifth-largest city, with an annual growth of about 2%. In 2010 the council was amalgamated with the other authorities of the Auckland Region to form the current Auckland Council. The name "Waitākere" comes from the Waitākere River in the Waitākere Ranges. History Before being settled by Europeans, the Māori iwi Te Kawerau a Maki and Ngāti Whātua had already settled in the Waitakere area. Bob Harvey (mayor)
Sir Robert Anster Harvey (born 24 November 1940) is a former New Zealand advertising executive and politician. He is best known for his time as mayor of Waitakere City, which he held for 18 years from 1992 to 2010, and was also president of the New Zealand Labour Party in 1999 and 2000. Early life and family Harvey was adopted when he was six months old, although he did not learn this until he was 50. He married Barbara, a midwife, in 1970. The couple has five adult children. A keen swimmer and surf life-saver, Harvey won the bronze medal at the New Zealand national championships in 1972 and the 1995 life saving world championships. He swam the Dardanelles in 1979 and was the first to attempt the notorious mouth of the Manukau Harbour, the Manukau Heads in 1987.
