Gordon S. Clinton
Gordon Stanley Clinton (April 13, 1920 – November 19, 2011) was the 43rd mayor of Seattle. After defeating incumbent Mayor Allen Pomeroy in a close election in 1956, Clinton served two terms, from 1956 to 1964. Upon taking office, Clinton established the Metropolitan Problems Advisory Committee, headed by local community leader John Ellis, to suggest approaches to dealing with chronic local and regional problems. During his administration, Clinton tackled issues as divergent as regional governance, international trade, and discrimination in housing. He was a Republican. Clinton actively supported development of enabling legislation used by the Washington State Legislature to allow creation of regional governments, leading to the formation of the Municipality of Metropolitan Seattle (Metro) in 1958. Allan Pomeroy
Merritt "Allan" Pomeroy – (1907-July 7, 1966) was the forty-third mayor of Seattle, Washington serving from June 1, 1952 to June 4, 1956. Early life Pomeroy was born in Astoria, Oregon, and later moved with his parents to the state of Washington. He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Washington in 1927 where he was a founding member of the Sigma Pi fraternity chapter. He earned his law degree from the University of Washington School of Law in 1931. He married Loretta Tyler and they had a daughter, Paula Pomeroy LeFavor, and a son, Allan Merritt Pomeroy. After graduating from law school, Pomeroy became a practicing lawyer. He eventually became a judge and public servant, serving as Justice of the Peace in Kitsap County (1934-1936), acting Seattle municipal judge (1942), assistant United States Attorney for Western Washington (1942-1948), and King County Superior Court judge (1948). James D'Orma Braman
James d'Orma Braman (December 23, 1901 – August 21, 1980) was an American politician who served as the 45th mayor of Seattle, Washington from 1964 to 1969. To date, Braman was the last Republican to serve as Mayor of Seattle. Previously, mayors were elected for a term of four years, but because of a change in the date of election to odd-numbered years during his mayoral tenure, Braman served five and a half years. Early life and education He was born in Lorimor, Iowa, on December 23, 1901. As a child, Braman lived in Oklahoma before his family relocated to Pend Oreille County, Washington around 1908.
