"Good Rhymes" is the debut single by UK garage group Da Click, released in late 1998. It was produced by DJ Pied Piper, and features rapping from the MCs Creed, PSG and Unknown MC, and singing from Valerie M. A top 20 hit, the song peaked at No. 14 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 2 on the UK Dance Singles Chart in January 1999. The song interpolates the bassline and chorus of the 1979 Chic hit "Good Times", as well as interpolating vocals from Luther Vandross' " Never Too Much" during PSG's part in the second verse. Da Click were a UK garage group which consisted of DJ/producer Pied Piper (Eugene Nwohia), emcees Creed (Christopher Reid), PSG (Paul Gabriel) and Unknown MC (Ronnie Nwohia), and singer Valerie M (Valerie Malcolm). They are best known for their UK chart hit single " Good Rhymes", which reached No. 14 on the UK Singles Chart in January 1999, and spent 6 weeks on the chart. Their second single, "We Are Da Click" was a top 40 hit, peaking at No. 38. "Good Rhymes" interpolates "Good Times" by Chic and " Never Too Much" by Luther Vandross. Chic (band)
Chic ( ), currently called Nile Rodgers & Chic, is an American band that was formed in 1972 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards. It recorded many commercially successful disco songs, including "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" (1977), " Everybody Dance" (1977), "Le Freak" (1978), " I Want Your Love" (1978), " Good Times" (1979), and "My Forbidden Lover" (1979). 2-step garage, or simply 2-step, is a genre of electronic music and a subgenre of UK garage.''A transcription of this article is availablhere as a PDF file.'' One of the primary characteristics of the 2-step sound – the term being coined to describe "a general rubric for all kinds of jittery, irregular rhythms that don't conform to garage's traditional four-on-the-floor pulse" – is that the rhythm lacks the kick drum pattern found in many other styles of electronic music with a regular four-on-the-floor beat. Brandon Block (born 26 November 1967) is a British club DJ. He has appeared on reality shows like '' Celebrity Come Dine with Me'' and ''Celebrity Big Brother''. He is well known for appearing on stage heavily intoxicated at the 2000 BRIT Awards. Friends suggested that he had entered a musical contest and had won ''Best Musician of the Year'', when in fact he had not even been nominated for the award. This resulted in a confrontation with award presenter Ronnie Wood and Thora Birch. Early life Block was born in London. At the age of four, he moved to Wembley along with his mother, who still lives there today. Block's career started out in 1985 at the John Lyon pub in Harrow, Middlesex. WhoSampled is a website and app database of information about sampled music or sample-based music, cover songs and remixes. History Nadav Poraz founded the site in London, England in 2008, as a way to track musical samples and cover songs. Mobile apps were released in 2012 and 2014 for iPhone and Android, respectively. The website's database is user-generated and reviewed by moderators before the content goes live. As of 2022, the site's most sampled track is the Amen break from the Winstons. In 2015, the site added support for film and television clips. The following year, it partnered with Spotify and introduced a six degrees of separation-inspired game that tracks relationships between artists, producers, and their tracks. "Never Too Much" is the debut song written, composed, produced, and performed by Luther Vandross. The R&B song was released in 1981, as the lead single from Vandross's debut album of the same name. The title track hit number one on the US ''Billboard'' Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, reached number four on the US ''Billboard'' Dance Club Songs chart, and peaked at number 33 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The album (Vandross' first as a solo artist) was very popular, especially with Black Radio and R&B Charts. Good Times (Chic Song)
"Good Times" is a song by American R&B band Chic from their third album '' Risqué'' (1979). It ranks 68th on ''Rolling Stone''s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and has become one of the most sampled tunes in music history, most notably in hip hop music. Originally released with "A Warm Summer Night" on the B-side, it was reissued in 2004 with " I Want Your Love" on the B-side, a version which was certified Silver in the UK. Lyrics and inspiration The lyrics include a reference to Milton Ager's "Happy Days Are Here Again". It also contains lines based on lyrics featured in "About a Quarter to Nine" made famous by Al Jolson. In popular music, interpolation (also called a replayed sample) refers to using a melody—or portions of a melody (often with modified lyrics)—from a previously recorded song but re-recording the melody instead of sampling it. Interpolation is often used when the artist or label who owns the piece of music declines to license the sample, or if licensing the piece of music is considered too costly.
