Gonzalo Fernández Of Castile
Gonzalo Fernández was Count of Burgos (ca. 899-915) and of Castile (c. 909-915). Recorded for the first time in 899 as Count of Burgos, soon the region expanded to the eastern mountain valleys enabling Gonzalo to make his fort base in Lara, thus stretching his rule from the foot of the Cantabrian Mountains around Espinosa de los Monteros to the river Arlanza, which therefore became the border with the neighbouring Muslim territories. In order to stretch his territory this far, he first had to displace the Muslim forces based at the stronghold of Carazo that dominated the area and access. This was achieved after a long and well contested struggle. The valley of Lara was then the rallying point of the family that - years later - achieved through his son, Fernán González the quasi-independence of Castile, securing the area for five generations with the family until it became a kingdom under Fernando I of Castile of the Jimenez dynasty. Gonzalo Fernández De Traba
Gonzalo Fernández de Traba (died 1160) was a Galician nobleman and the head of the Traba family. He was the eldest son and successor of Fernando Pérez de Traba by his wife Sancha González. By 1 August 1150 Gonzalo had married a certain Elvira Rodríguez, a woman of unknown origins, with whom, on that date, he donated his portion of San Julián de Ezebreiro to the Cistercian monastery of Monfero. By 12 January 1156 he was re-married to Berenguela Rodríguez, daughter of Rodrigo Vélaz and Urraca Álvarez and sister of Álvaro Rodríguez, thus relating himself by marriage to the Vela family. His sons, all by his first wife, were Fernando, Gómez and Rodrigo. He also two daughters by his first wife: Urraca, who married Fruela Ramírez, and Aldonza, who married Lope Díaz I de Haro. Gonzalo Fernández De Córdoba
Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba (1 September 1453 – 2 December 1515) was a Spanish general and statesman who led successful military campaigns during the Conquest of Granada and the Italian Wars. His military victories and widespread popularity earned him the nickname "''El Gran Capitán''" ("The Great Captain"). He also negotiated the final surrender of Granada and later served as Viceroy of Naples. Fernández de Córdoba was a masterful military strategist and tactician. He was among the first Europeans to introduce the successful use of firearms on the battlefield and he reorganized his infantry to include pikes and firearms in effective defensive and offensive formations. Gonzalo Andrés Domingo Fernández de Córdoba (31 December 1585 – 16 February 1635) was one of the main Spanish military leaders during the Eighty Years' War, /sup> Thirty Years' War, and the War of the Mantuan Succession. Biography He was born at Cabra, in what is now the Province of Córdoba and was the third son of Antonio Fernández de Córdoba Cardona y Requesens, the Duke of Soma and was great grandchild of his namesake Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba, ''the Great Capitan''. He was one of the principal commanders in the Catholic alliance under the Imperial general Johann Tserclaes, Count of Tilly in the successful battles of Wimpfen and Höchst. Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo y Valdés (August 14781557), commonly known as Oviedo, was a Spanish soldier, historian, writer, botanist and colonist. Oviedo participated in the Spanish colonization of the West Indies, arriving in the first few years after Christopher Columbus, in 1492, became the first European to arrive at the islands. Oviedo's chronicle ''Historia general de las Indias'', published in 1535 to expand on his 1526 summary ''La Natural hystoria de las Indias'' (collectively reprinted, three centuries after his death, as ''Historia general y natural de las Indias''), forms one of the few primary sources about it. Gonzalo Daniel Fernández Domínguez (born 21 March 1952) is a Uruguayan lawyer, politician and former Foreign Minister of Uruguay, having been appointed in March 2008. Subsequently he was Defense Minister until 1 March 2010. Background Fernández was previously a senior aide to the President of Uruguay Tabaré Vázquez from 2005 to 2008. His professional training was as a lawyer. Prior to working at the Secretariat of the Presidency, Fernández had worked as a lawyer for Vázquez when the latter was a practising medical doctor. Gonzalo Fernández de la Mora y Mon (Barcelona, 1924 – Madrid, 2002) was a Spanish essayist and politician who represented Pontevedra in Congress for the Popular Alliance from 1977 to 1979. He was married to Isabel Valera Una, and had four children with her: Isabel, Gonzalo, Juan Luis & Sandra. Biography When he was two years old, his family moved to Madrid, and Gonzalo Fernandez de la Mora later began studying for his Baccalaureate at Colegio de Pilar. He lived in Galicia for a short period of time (in Mondariz, Guitiriz and Vigo). The civil war broke out in Galicia while he was on holiday so he was forced to stay there and complete his Baccalaureate with the Jesuits of the Colegio de Santiago Apostol. Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (born 13 October 1980) is a Spanish professional golfer. He has played on the European Tour, winning seven times, and on the PGA Tour. Early life Fernández-Castaño was born in Madrid. He started playing golf at the age of three and had a successful amateur career, winning the 2003 Spanish Amateur Open Championship and achieving the first place in the Spanish amateur ranking in the same year. He represented Spain and Europe in several amateur team competitions, and was in the winning European team at the 2003 and 2004 Palmer Cup. He turned professional at the end of 2004 after completing Stage One of the European Tour Qualifying School, finishing eighth at the Finals at San Roque Golf Club where he secured his card for the 2005 season.
