Gonepteryx Mahaguru
''Gonepteryx mahaguru'', the lesser brimstone, is a medium-sized butterfly of the family Pieridae, that is, the yellows and whites. It is native to the Kashmir, Uttarakhand, China, Korea, and Japan. Relation to ''Gonepteryx aspasia'' Though there has historically been confusion regarding whether ''G. mahaguru'' and ''G. aspasia'' are different species – exacerbated by the fact that Ménétriès's 1859 description of ''G. aspasia'' received widespread recognition while Gistel's earlier 1857 description of ''G. mahaguru'' was unknown to his contemporaries – they have since been determined to be different species. Johannes Von Nepomuk Franz Xaver Gistel
Johannes von Nepomuk Franz Xaver Gistel [Gistl] (11 August 1809 – 9 March 1873) was a German naturalist. He worked at the Museum of Natural History in Regensburg, and wrote on a range of topics under the pseudonyms Garduus and G. Tilesius (an anagram). His contributions to entomology include descriptions of species, with many new names he proposed now mostly relegated to synonymy. Gistel's father Franz Xaver Gistl (1783–1815) worked at the a royal riding school and died in 1813. Gistel was raised by his mother, Maria Anna Gistl (née Hahn, born 1772) and his older sister Katharina Leonora (born 1808). School records indicate that his original name was Lorenz Gistl. He was educated in schools in Rempart and Schönfeld before joining the royal gymnasium in Munich in 1822. His degrees in medicine and philosophy appear to be fake. The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), founded on 15 September 1883, is one of the largest non-governmental organisations in India engaged in conservation and biodiversity research. Gonepteryx
''Gonepteryx'' is a genus of butterflies in the family Pieridae, which contains about 1,100 species. They live in Europe, Asia, and Northern Africa. They are commonly known as brimstones for the bright yellow colour of the wings of most species. These share the same name as the much larger tropical genus Anteos. These inhabit much of central and South America and also North America. This species are known for being the kings of butterfly longevity. 10-13 months is the lifespan for many temperate species. Anteos, however, is much shorter lived. The adults will often mimic ivy leaves at rest. Male brimstone butterflies can withstand cooler temperatures and are able to fly after just 4 months in hibernation. Female brimstone butterflies need warmer climates to survive, and therefore are in hibernation longer. The male butterflies have a longer life span as they are more resilient to a wider range of temperatures, unlike the female.
