Gomant Vibhushan Award is the highest civilian honour of the State of Goa. It is given annually by Government of Goa to people of Goan origin for exceptional work in any field. The Government of Goa is a state government created by the Constitution of India and has executive, legislative and judicial authority of the state of Goa. Anil Kakodkar
Anil Kakodkar (born 11 November 1943) is an Indian nuclear physicist and mechanical engineer. He was the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India and the Secretary to the Government of India, he was the Director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay from 1996 to 2000. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honour, on 26 January 2009. Apart from playing a major role in India's nuclear tests asserting sovereignty, Kakodkar champions India's self-reliance on thorium as a fuel for nuclear energy. Early life Kakodkar was born on 11 November 1943 in Barwani princely state (present day Madhya Pradesh state) to Kamala Kakodkar and Purushottam Kakodkar, both Gandhian freedom fighters. Goans ( kok, गोंयकार, Romi Konkani: , pt, Goeses) is the demonym used to describe the people native to Goa, India, who form an ethno-linguistic group resulting from the assimilation of Indo-Aryan, Dravidian, Indo-Portuguese, and Austro-Asiatic ethnic and/or linguistic ancestries. Charles Mark Correa (1 September 1930 – 16 June 2015) was an Indian architect and urban planner. Credited with the creation of modern architecture in post-Independent India, he was celebrated for his sensitivity to the needs of the urban poor and for his use of traditional methods and materials. Lambert Mascarenhas ( gom, लॅम्बर्ट मास्कारेन्हस, script=deva, 17 September 1914 – 27 June 2021) was an Indian journalist, independence activist, and writer from Goa. His family hailed from the Goan Catholic community. Personal life Mascarenhas was born in Colva, Portuguese India, but his early education took place in Pune and later at the St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. He was married to Dr. Jolly Mascarenhas. He had four children. He had taken a vow that he would marry only after the liberation of Goa from colonial Portuguese rule. Hence, he married on 29 December 1961, exactly ten days after Goa's liberation by India on 19 December 1961. Mascarenhas died on 27 June 2021 at the age of 106. Laxman Pai
Laxman Pai (21 January 1926 – 14 March 2021) was an Indian artist and painter. He was a principal of the Goa College of Art, a post he held from 1977 to 1987. Pai was a recipient of several awards including India's third highest civilian honour of ''Padma Bhushan'', awarded by the Government of India. Early life Pai was born in a Gaud Saraswat Brahmin family in Margao, Goa, on 21 January 1926. His tryst with art was at his uncle's Mauzo Photo Studio in Margao, where he used to touch up the black and white photographs with paint. In the 1940s, he was actively involved in the Goa liberation movement for which he was arrested thrice by the Portuguese colonials. He was beaten by the Portuguese police after being arrested and for this reason, his parents sent him to the city of Bombay where he studied at the Sir J. J.
