Golden Rose Stakes
The Golden Rose Stakes is an Australian Turf Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds, run at set weights, over a distance of 1,400 metres at Rosehill Racecourse, Sydney, Australia. Previously run in late August or early September, the race is now run on the fourth Saturday in September. Total prizemoney for the race is A$1 million. History The initial race was named after the dual Melbourne Cup winner Peter Pan (1932, 1934). When the race was renamed in 2003 the race had its grade dropped from Grade 2 to an unlisted race even though the stakes of the race were increased to $1 million. Rosehill Racecourse
The Rosehill Gardens Racecourse is located in the Western Sydney suburb of Rosehill, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is operated by the Australian Turf Club. Rosehill holds horse races for thoroughbred gallopers on a grass surface. It is one of the two premier racecourses in Sydney, the other one being Randwick Racecourse. One of the main events held at Rosehill is the Golden Slipper race for two-year-olds. The track has a circumference of with a home straight of . History John Bennett purchased a large section of Rosehill to construct a racecourse and recreation area. Construction started in 1883 and was completed in April 1885 for a grand total of £12,000. Bennett constructed a private railway line connecting the racecourse to the main line located at Clyde which opened on 17 November 1888. Bivouac (foaled 4 November 2016) is a multiple Group 1 winning Australian thoroughbred racehorse. Background Bivouac is a home-bred stallion by Godolphin. He is out of the Australian sire Exceed And Excel and is a three-quarter brother to the 4-time Group 1 winner Guelph. Bivouac is out of the mare, Dazzler, who won her first two starts at Geelong and Flemington in an 11-start career. Racing career 2018/19: two-year-old season Bivouac began his racing career with a second placing at Randwick, followed by a third placing three months later at the same track. Kingston Town (horse)
Kingston Town (31 August 1976 – March 1991) was a champion Australian Thoroughbred racehorse who won three Cox Plates and 11 other Group One races and was the 1980 Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year. Background He was by Bletchingly, later a Leading sire in Australia, his dam, Ada Hunter (GER) was by Andrea Mantegna (FR). Ada Hunter was the dam of nine foals, but Private Thoughts (a brother to Kingston Town) was her only other stakes winner. She was later exported to the United States. Kingston Town was bred by David Hains, who sold a share in him to G. Monsborough and his wife after the horse failed to reach his reserve as a yearling. Racing career He was trained throughout his career by Tommy Smith and ridden in 25 of his 30 wins by Malcolm Johnston. Flying Spur (horse)
Flying Spur (4 November 1992–8 May 2018) was an Australian Thoroughbred racehorse that won three Group One races, most notably the 1995 Golden Slipper. He was also the Leading sire in Australia for the 2006/07 season. Background Flying Spur was from the second crop of champion sire Danehill. He was born and bred at Arrowfield Stud in the Hunter Region of New South Wales. He was sent to the 1994 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale where he was bought for $160,000 by trainer Lee Freedman for a group of owners. The majority ownership of the horse was retained by Arrowfield Stud. Racing career Flying Spur won at his debut on the 26 November 1994 at Caulfield. Two starts later he won his first stakes races the Blue Diamond Prelude when ridden by Mick Dittman. Australian Turf Club (ATC) owns and operates thoroughbred racing, events and hospitality venues across Sydney, Australia. The ATC came into being on 7 February 2011 when the Australian Jockey Club (AJC) and the Sydney Turf Club (STC) merged. Epaulette (foaled 9 November 2009) is a multiple Group One winning thoroughbred racehorse and successful stallion. Background Epaulette was homebred by Darley Stud and is a three-quarter brother to Group One winning stallion, Helmet. Racing career Epaulette won the Black Opal Stakes as a two-year-old. As a three-year-old he had success in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude and the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes. He also ran second behind the unbeaten Black Caviar in her final ever start in the 2013 TJ Smith Stakes. Epaulette won his second Group 1 when successful in the Doomben 10,000. Zoustar (foaled 8 September 2010) is a two-time Group 1 winning Australian Thoroughbred racehorse and successful sire who has sired multiple stakes winners. Background Originally bred by Racetree Stud outside of Beaudesert, Queensland, Zoustar was sold for A$85,000 at the 2011 National Weanling Sale. He was sold again at the 2012 Magic Millions yearling sale for A$140,000 to syndicator Sheriff Iskander. Racing career Zoustar was successful in his first start on the 13 April 2013 winning at Canterbury by almost two-lengths. Exosphere (foaled 25 August 2012) is a retired Thoroughbred racehorse trained and bred in Australia. He won the Golden Rose Stakes, a Group one race, and accumulated over a million dollars in winnings. He was known for his large size. Career Exosphere had his first race on 1 November 2014 at Rosehill. Despite entering the race as odds-on favourite, he finished last after over-racing in the lead. The vet said he was distressed after the race. On 14 February 2015, Exosphere won his first race, leading by 4 lengths in the 1000m race at Kembla Grange. Trapeze Artist (foaled 17 September 2014) is a four-time Group 1 winning Australian bred thoroughbred racehorse. Racing career As a 2 year old Trapeze Artist won two races including the Black Opal Stakes. He also finished 6th in the Golden Slipper. As a 3 year old he won his first Group 1 race the Golden Rose Stakes by a record margin of 4 lengths after being backed in from odds of 90/1 into 40/1. Further Group 1 success was achieved by winning the TJ Smith Stakes in a race record time, bettering the race time of Black Caviar. Career The Autumn Sun was purchased for $650,000 at the 2016 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. Olly Koolman of Hermitage said, "We went with the plan to buy a Derby winner. Background Ole Kirk is out of the unraced mare Naturale, who is Black Caviar's full sister, making him a nephew to the champion sprinter.
