''Golden Balls'' was a British daytime game show that was presented by Jasper Carrott. It was broadcast on the ITV network from 18 June 2007 to 18 December 2009. Gameplay Round 1 At the back of the studio is the "Golden Bank," a giant contraption like a lottery machine. Inside are 100 golden balls, containing cash values that range from £10 to £75,000. Twelve of these balls are randomly drawn from the Golden Bank and put into a mixer, and four "Killer" balls are added by Amanda Grant, referred to by Carrott as the "Balls' Assistant" or "Killer Queen." These 16 balls are split equally and randomly among four contestants, each of whom places two balls on their own front and back row holders without looking inside. As Carrott introduces the contestants, they open their front-row balls for all to see. The Portuguese Golden Ball (known in Portuguese as ''A Bola de Ouro'') is an annual award given, by Portuguese newspaper ''A Bola'', to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the year in the Primeira Liga. Edward Hughes Ball Hughes (28 May 1798 – 10 March 1863), also known as "The Golden Ball", was an English dandy known for his extravagant lifestyle. Life Hughes was born in Lambourne, Essex, and was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. He spent some time in the 7th Hussars but left army life to enjoy his fortune. He soon attracted attention for his wealth and extravagance, with etchings of him publicly available as early as 1819. The Golden Ball is a pub in the Bishophill area of central York, in England. The first record of the pub was in 1773. The core part of the building was constructed in the early 19th century. In 1883, a house for the publican was constructed by Benson & Minks, adjoining the pub. The pub was sold to Braime's Brewery in 1884, and this in 1902 was taken over by John Smith's Brewery. In 1929, the pub was constructed by their architect Bertram Wilson. He combined the two buildings, raised the ceiling height in the older part of the building, and decorated the front of the pub. In the 1990s, an additional room was added to the pub, from what was formerly a private area. The pub has otherwise been little altered since the 1920s, and is described by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) as "the most complete surviving inter-war scheme by John Smith's".
