Padmavati Shaligram Gokhale (1918 – 20 July 2014) was a Hindustani music vocalist, instrumentalist, and music educator. Shaligram was born in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Gokhale performed all over Hindustan (India and Pakistan) before partition. Her '' gayaki'' had the traditional elements of the Jaipur-Atrauli ''gharana'' with the ''swar''–''lagav'' which was influenced by the Kirana ''gharana''. Padmavati''tai'' was also a teacher and trained numerous disciples. Some of them are Kedar Naphade, Shubhada Paradkar, Sunita Tikare, Anita Sundararajan, Geeta Javdekar, and others. Her style bears distinctive gayaki of Alladiya Khan's style. Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE), commonly known as Gokhale Institute, is one of the oldest research and training institutes in economics in India. History The institute was founded on 6 June 1930 by R. R. Kale as a centre for research and higher learning in economics. The institute was founded with an endowment offered to the Servants of India Society by Shri R R Kale. The Servants of India Society, a registered body founded by the nationalist leader Gopal Krishna Gokhale, are the trustees of the institute. Vishnubawa Brahmachari
Vishnu Bhikaji Gokhale (1825–1871), popularly known as Vishnubawa Brahmachari and as Brahmachari Bawa, was a 19th-century Marathi Hindu revivalist. An ascetic defender of the Hindu dharma, he was known for his religious polemics, chiefly against Christianity. He was known for his "witty repartee and vigorous argument" confronting Christian missionaries and, occasionally, other Hindus. His 1857 debates in Bombay were widely publicized in English and Marathi in at least nine books.
