Going To America
"Going to America" is the series finale of the Channel 4 sitcom ''Father Ted''. It is the eighth episode of the third series, and the 25th episode overall. Dermot Morgan, who played the show's title character, died the day after filming was completed. Synopsis After Ted prevents a depressed Father Kevin (Tommy Tiernan) from jumping to his death at the "It's Great Being a Priest" conference, an American priest, Father Buzz Cagney ( Jeff Harding), asks him if he will come to a parish in Los Angeles. Ted cannot wait and excitedly tells Jack, Dougal and Mrs. Doyle, who incorrectly think they will be able to come with him. ''Father Ted'' is a sitcom created by Irish writers Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews (writer), Arthur Mathews and produced by British production company Hat Trick Productions for Channel 4. It aired over three series from 21 April 1995 until 1 May 1998, including a Christmas special, for a total of List of Father Ted episodes, 25 episodes. "Theme from ''Shaft''", written and recorded by Isaac Hayes in 1971, is the soul and funk-styled theme song to the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film ''Shaft''. The theme was released as a single (shortened and edited from the longer album version) two months after the movie's soundtrack by Stax Records' Enterprise label. "Theme from ''Shaft''" went to number two on the Billboard Soul Singles chart (behind "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)" by Marvin Gaye) and to number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in the United States in November 1971. "A Song for Europe" is the fifth episode of the second series of the Channel 4 sitcom ''Father Ted'' and the 11th episode overall. It originally aired on April 5, 1996 and has since been recognised as one of the most popular episodes of the show. The episode is based on Ireland's winning streak at the Eurovision Song Contest during the 1990s. The plot centres around Ted and Dougal trying to write a song for it (though the episode does not refer to that name directly) in order to settle a rivalry with Dick Byrne. The pair unsuccessfully write their own tune, before deciding to steal a former entry they believe nobody remembers. "The Plague" is the sixth episode of the second series of the Channel 4 religion-themed sitcom ''Father Ted'', and the twelfth episode overall. It is the second of three episodes featuring Jim Norton as Bishop Len Brennan. "Rock a Hula Ted" is the seventh episode of the second series of Channel 4 sitcom ''Father Ted'', and the thirteenth episode overall. Synopsis Ted and Dougal see feminist musician Niamh Connolly – a thinly veiled parody of Sinéad O'Connor – on the television, accusing the Catholic Church of multiple atrocious but highly improbable acts during the Great Famine, such as shutting the "potato factories" and turning them into children's prisons. She then sings a radically feminist, anti-clerical song ("Big men in frocks / Tellin' us what to do / They can't get pregnant like I do") with the lyrics signed for TV viewers. "New Jack City" is the ninth episode of the second series of the Channel 4 television sitcom ''Father Ted''. At the inaugural Ted Fest in February 2007, it was voted the best ''Father Ted'' episode. Synopsis Father Jack contracts "Hairy Hands Syndrome" (level 6 out of a maximum 12) and is sent to St. Clabbert's Hospital for wayward priests (jokingly referred to as "Jurassic Park" by the Clergymen of Craggy Island, after the film of the same title). "Flight Into Terror" is the 10th episode of the second series of Channel 4 sitcom ''Father Ted'' and the 16th episode overall. Synopsis The three Craggy Island priests are on a plane with a party of other priests and nuns, returning to Ireland from a pilgrimage to a golf course where the Blessed Virgin Mary has appeared. Ted and Dougal share their tacky souvenirs, which include a talking tape dispenser that tells one how much tape they used. As the plane takes off, Ted notes his fear of flying. Dougal is invited to come to see the cockpit with Father Noel Furlong and Father Fintan Fay, who behaves as a monkey. In the cockpit, Dougal is enticed by the a big red button that says "Do Not Press", and only accidentally presses it when instructed to press the adjacent one when Noel is trying to calm down Fintan. "A Christmassy Ted" is both the 17th episode overall of and a Christmas special for the Channel 4 sitcom ''Father Ted''. This episode was broadcast between the second and third series. It is 55 minutes long, as opposed to the usual 21–22 mins of all other episodes in the series. It was aired on Christmas Eve 1996, seven months after the second series had ended. Due to the popularity of this episode, it still gets repeated on Channel 4, RTÉ Two and More4 around Christmas every year. Chirpy Burpy Cheap Sheep is the second episode of the third series of the Channel 4 sitcom ''Father Ted''. "Speed 3" is the third episode of the third series of the Channel 4 sitcom ''Father Ted'' and the 20th episode overall. The episode parodies the action-thriller film ''Speed'' and the sequel '' Speed 2: Cruise Control''. "Speed 3" was written after the show's writers Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews asked themselves: "How can we make a worse sequel than ''Speed 2''?"
