Goidschalxoord
Goidschalxoord () is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located about 5 km east of Oud-Beijerland, in the municipality of Hoeksche Waard. History A ferry from Goidschalxoord to Rhoon existed before 1537. In 1888, a bridge was built, and in 1941, the ferry was taken out of service. The bridge was demolished after the on the A29 opened. The current name was first attested in 1841, and refers to Goidschalck Oelm who was the ''ambachtsheer'' (predecessor of mayor). Hoeksche Waard () is a municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland, consisting of the eponymous Hoeksche Waard and Tiengemeten islands. Oud-Beijerland
Oud-Beijerland () is a town and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland, now a part of the Hoeksche Waard municipality. With a population of 24,575 in 2020, it is the most populous town of the Hoeksche Waard island. The town is located adjacent to the confluence of the Oude Maas and Spui River. The town of Oud-Beijerland also includes the communities Vuurbaken and Zinkweg. History After the St. Elizabeth's flood (1421), large parts of the islands Putten and Grote Waard were lost and became clay banks and salt marshes which would be inundated at high tide and be unsuitable for habitation. In subsequent centuries, portions of land would be reclaimed. Oud-Beijerland was formed in 1559 as "Beijerland" by Lamoral, Count of Egmont. Rhoon
200px, Castle Rhoon 200px, frameless Rhoon is a village that borders the municipality of the city of Rotterdam, South Holland, the Netherlands. According to its history it was established in 1199 and was ruled by the ''lords of Duiveland''. In the 14th century the village was struck by many floods. In the last big flood, the North Sea flood of 1953, the Dutch government implemented the "deltawerken" (Delta Works). This is a large protection barrier of dikes and dams to keep the water of the North Sea out during high tides. In 1969 Rhoon also became part of this plan and a large dike was established around the island of IJsselmonde. Rhoon is part of the island of IJsselmonde and situated in the south of this island.
