Goff's Oak
Goffs Oak (Goff's Oak on Ordnance Survey maps) is a large village in the borough of Broxbourne (borough), Broxbourne in Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. It lies between Cuffley and Cheshunt, just north of the M25 motorway in a slightly more rural section of the London commuter belt. History The village is named after the Goff family, who owned much of the land in the area, and is symbolised by the original Old Oak, said to be several hundred years old before it fell in the 1950s. Its replacement fell itself after severe damage during the Great Storm of 1987, storm of 1987. The village centre is marked by a War Memorial which was unveiled on 20 December 1920 and is inscribed with the names of 32 men from the village who were killed in the First World War. Broxbourne (borough)
The Borough of Broxbourne is a local government district and borough in Hertfordshire, England. Its council is based in Cheshunt, other towns include Broxbourne, Hoddesdon and Waltham Cross. The eastern boundary of the district is the River Lea. The borough covers in south east Hertfordshire having a population of about 96,000. The borough was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of Cheshunt and Hoddesdon urban districts. In Broxbourne borough, the Metropolitan Green Belt protects the surrounding countryside. The west of Broxbourne borough extends over well-wooded countryside to include Goffs Oak and the popular Lee Valley Park which marks the eastern boundary. Although urbanised with industrial and commercial activity, the whole area retains much of its rural character and is liked by people commuting to London. Cheshunt is a National Rail and London Overground station in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, England. Cuffley Railway Station
Cuffley railway station serves the village of Cuffley in the Welwyn Hatfield district of Hertfordshire. It also serves other nearby settlements, namely Goffs Oak, Northaw and the west of Cheshunt. It is down the line from on the Hertford Loop Line. The station opened in 1910 on the Hertford Loop Line between Enfield Chase and Hertford North as ''Cuffley and Goff's Oak'', with the suffix being dropped some time later. The opening of the station allowed Cuffley to expand as an attractive commuter village with regular services to London King's Cross, and Broad Street (replaced by Northern City Line trains to Moorgate in 1976). Unit 4 + 2 were a British pop band, who had a number one hit on the UK Singles Chart in 1965 with the song "Concrete and Clay". The track topped the UK chart for one week. Career Early days In 1962, Brian Parker, then the guitar player and songwriter with the Hunters, decided to form his own vocal harmony group. He asked his friend David 'Buster' Meikle to join him. They asked singer Tommy Moeller and Peter Moules, who were at school together, to join their group, which they called Unit 4, reportedly inspired by "Unit 4," the fourth and final segment of the BBC Radio show ''Pick of the Pops'', which featured the Top 10.
