Godsfire
''Godsfire'' is a science fiction board wargame published by Metagaming Concepts in 1976 that simulates planetary empire building, economics, and diplomacy. The game was reissued by Task Force Games in 1985. Description ''Godsfire'' is set in the open star cluster Narym, which contains 15 planetary systems. It is a game for up to 15 players according to the rules, although the Metagaming version only has enough counters for eight players and the Task Force Games version only enough for four players. Like ''Stellar Conquest'', players start with one or more planets, and try to conquer other planets. In addition to space- and land-based combat, players must also manage the political situation on their planets. Each planet contains four states that are bitter rivals. Doling out manufacturing to one state without spending similar amounts in the other three might result in a revolt that will cut the player's tax revenues, and thus the ability to manufacture goods. Lynn Willis
Lynn Willis (died January 18, 2013) was a wargame and role-playing game designer, best known for his work with Metagaming Concepts, Game Designers' Workshop (GDW), and Chaosium. Biography Willis began by designing science fiction wargames for Metagaming Concepts, starting with ''Godsfire'' in 1976. He designed the MicroGames ''Olympica'' (1978) and ''Holy War'' (1979). Chaosium published '' Lords of the Middle Sea'' (1978), and Willis joined Chaosium in 1978. GDW published '' Bloodtree Rebellion'' (1979). Willis's relationship with Chaosium proved the most enduring; he would turn to role-playing games. He helped founder Greg Stafford trim and refine the ''RuneQuest'' rules into ''Basic Role-Playing'', the rules that would serve as the base for many of Chaosium's RPG lines. ''Ares'' was an American science fiction wargame magazine published by Simulations Publications, Inc. (SPI), and then TSR, Inc., between 1980 and 1984. In addition to the articles, each issue contained a wargame, complete with a foldout stiff paper map, a set of cardboard counters, and the rules. Publication history Simulations Publications, Inc. (SPI) began publishing ''Ares'' in 1980 as a science-fiction companion to ''Strategy & Tactics''.''Ares'' magazine was similar to ''Strategy & Tactics'', with a game every issue, but it focused on science-fiction and fantasy. Metagame, Hypergame, or game about the game, is an approach to a game that transcends or operates outside of the prescribed rules of the game, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. ''Metagaming'' might also refer to a game which functions to create or modify the rules of a sub-game. Thus, we might play a metagame selecting which rules will apply during the play of the game itself. David John Haskins (born 24 April 1957, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England), better known as David J, is a British alternative rock musician, producer, and writer. He is the bassist for the gothic rock band Bauhaus and for Love and Rockets. Metagaming Concepts, later known simply as Metagaming, was a company that published board games from 1974 to 1983. It was founded and owned by Howard Thompson, who designed the company's first game, ''Stellar Conquest''.
