Godfrey Kiprotich
Godfrey Chirchir Kiprotich (born 23 November 1964) is a Kenyan former long-distance runner who specialised in road running. He was a team gold medallist at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 1994, placing fourth to lead a team including Shem Kororia and Andrew Masai to victory. Career Kiprotich grew up running barefoot and attended St. Patrick's High School – a school renowned for producing successful distance runners. He began competing professionally in 1991. Among his first outings outside of Kenya was in the one hour run in La Flèche, France. His distance of 20,620 m in that time was the third best ever recorded by an athlete within the Commonwealth. He following this with runs of 27:47.94 minutes for the 10,000 metres at the Adriaan Paulen Memorial then 13:33.13 minutes to finish runner-up in the Palio della Quercia 5000 metres. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. Peachtree Road Race
The Peachtree Road Race (branded AJC Peachtree Road Race for sponsorship reasons) is an American 10-kilometer run held annually in Atlanta. After being held on Independence Day from 1970 to 2019, the race was cancelled because of the COVID pandemic after originally being set for Thanksgiving. It is the world's largest 10k race, a title it has held since the late 1970s. The race has become a citywide tradition in which over 70,000 amateur and professional runners try to register for one of the limited 60,000 spots. The event also includes a wheelchair race (known as the Shepherd Center wheelchair division), which precedes the footrace. Chicago Marathon
The Chicago Marathon is a marathon (long-distance foot race) held every October in Chicago, Illinois. It is one of the six World Marathon Majors. Thus, it is also a World Athletics Label Road Race. Pacemaker (running)
A pacemaker or pacesetter, sometimes informally called a rabbit, is a runner who leads a middle- or long-distance running event for the first section to ensure a fast time and avoid excessive tactical racing. Pacemakers are frequently employed by race organisers for world record attempts with specific instructions for lap times. Some athletes have essentially become professional pacemakers. A competitor who chooses the tactic of leading in order to win is called a front-runner rather than a pacemaker. Pacemakers may be used to avoid the tactics of deception that are possible in competition by those who, for example, race away from the start line (and are likely to subsequently slow down), giving the other runners the impression that they are far behind. Evans Rutto
Evans Rutto (born 8 April 1978 in Marakwet District) is a Kenyan long-distance runner, who specialises in road running events. He made the fastest-ever marathon debut by winning the 2003 Chicago Marathon in a time of 2:05:50. He won the London Marathon and a second title in Chicago the following year. After 2004, Rutto's form dipped considerably and in 2006 he took time away from marathoning due to injury. He has not yet returned to competition, although his personal best still keeps him within the top-20 fastest runners of all time. Career His first major competition was the 1999 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and he finished in fifth place in the long race and helped secure a dominant Kenyan finish in the team competition. Tulsa Run
The Tulsa Run is an annual running event in Tulsa, Oklahoma hosting thousands of participants of all ages and abilities for a fast and festive Halloween weekend event. The Tulsa Run began in 1978 with just over 1,000 runners. Since that time, it’s earned a spot as a marquee community event and the oldest race in Tulsa. In 2023, participants came from 35 different states and 5 different countries. It’s a true community event. Since 2011, the Tulsa Run has donated more than $330,000 to local non-profits. The Humarathon is an annual half marathon road running event which takes place between Ivry-sur-Seine and Vitry-sur-Seine in France every Easter Weekend (usually April). Hastings Half Marathon
The Hastings Half-Marathon is a road running event that takes place every March around the streets of Hastings. Starting in 1985 and organised by The Hastings Lions Club the race has become quite popular over the last few years, with calls for it to be crowned The Great South Run, attracting 5,000 entries every year.
