Go South Coast
Go South Coast is a bus operator on and around the south coast of England. It is a subsidiary of the Go-Ahead Group. History In August 2003 the Go-Ahead Group purchased the business of Wilts & Dorset, including its Damory Coaches and Tourist Group subsidiaries, followed in July 2005 by Southern Vectis including its Bluestar (bus company), Solent Blue Line subsidiary. In February 2006 Wilts & Dorset purchased bus refurbishment company Hants & Dorset Trim. At this stage, Go-Ahead consolidated the management of its south coast operations under Go South Coast in Poole. In October 2006 Marchwood Motorways was purchased. Thamesdown Transport was purchased from Swindon Borough Council in February 2017. Subsidiaries Go South Coast originally did not operate any buses in its own right, all being operated by subsidiary companies. Swindon's Bus Company (formerly Thamesdown Transport) is a bus operator in England, serving Swindon and the surrounding area. Previously owned by Swindon Borough Council, in February 2017 ownership passed to the Go-Ahead Group and the operation was rebranded as "Thamesdown...Swindon's bus company", later simply "Swindon's bus company". History Thamesdown Transport had its origins in 1904, when Swindon Corporation started to operate electric trams. Bus operation started in 1927, and two years later all the trams were replaced. On local government re-organisation in April 1974, the functions of the corporation were transferred to the new Thamesdown district, and the name of the bus operation was changed to Thamesdown Transport. Unilink is the branded bus service operated under contract and serving the University of Southampton in Hampshire, England. The service was created in 1998 following the university's expansion onto several new campuses, requiring new transport links between them. The current contractor of the service is Bluestar (bus company), Bluestar, part of the Go-Ahead Group, who took over in 2008. The service also encourages use by members of the public outside the university community. Marchwood Motorways
Marchwood Motorways was a bus and coach operator based in Totton, Hampshire. Formed as an independent in the 1940s, it was a subsidiary of the Go-Ahead Group from 2006 until it became dormant in 2010. Its operations were subsumed by those of Bluestar, but its licence remains legally separate. History Marchwood Motorways was formed in the 1940s. In the 1960s, Marchwood Motorways established a subsidiary in Haverfordwest to operate services during the construction of the Pembroke Refinery, requiring 60 coaches, at its peak. In the 1970s, Marchwood purchased the business of Bill Colins of Roch, including a service from Haverfordwest to St Davids. This was sold, in 1982, to Richards Bros. In July 2006, a major fire at the company's depot, caused by arson, destroyed three buses and offices, causing an estimated £250,000 of damage.
