Glyn Tegai Hughes
Glyn Tegai Hughes (18 January 1923 – 10 March 2017) was a Welsh scholar, writer and literary critic. He was a Liberal Party politician and Welsh nationalist. Background Hughes is the son of a Welsh Methodist minister,The Times House of Commons, 1950 Rev. John Hughes, and Keturah Hughes. He was educated at Newtown and Towyn County School, the Liverpool Institute and Manchester Grammar School. In 1942 he became a Methodist local preacher. From 1942 to 1946 he served with the Royal Welch Fusiliers and became Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General at the headquarters of the land forces in South-East Asia. After the war, he attended University at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge,The Times House of Commons, 1955 where he gained a Schol., MA, PhD. In 1957 he married Margaret Vera Herbert of Brisbane, Queensland; they had two sons. Robin Miriam Carlsson (born 12 June 1979), known as Robyn (), is a Swedish pop singer, songwriter, record producer, and DJ. S4C Authority
The S4C Authority ( cy, Awdurdod S4C) is an independent public body appointed by the United Kingdom Government's Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to oversee the management of the Welsh-language television channel S4C. Although an independent body, the authority works in conjunction with the UK-wide broadcasting and telecommunications regulator Ofcom, who have responsibility for regulating S4C's output. The current members of the S4C Authority are Bill Davies, John Davies, Cenwyn Edwards, Dyfrig Jones, Glenda Jones, Huw Jones (Chair), Winston Roddick, and Rheon Thomas (Vice Chair). Channel Four Television Corporation is a British state-owned media company headquartered in London. Its original and principal activity is the British national television network Channel 4. Audience Council Wales
The Audience Council Wales was created upon establishment of the BBC Trust in January 2007. It replaced the Broadcasting Council for Wales which had many responsibilities the present council now has, and was set up in 1953 as a result of a White Paper on broadcasting published by the Conservative government of the time. ACW was created in order to represent the interests of BBC audiences in Wales, and in helping the BBC Trust understand the needs, interests and concerns of audiences. There are other councils for the other three nations in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It has 11 members from across the principality. BBC Cymru Wales is a division of the BBC and the main public broadcaster in Wales. The Arts Council of Wales (ACW; cy, Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru) is a Welsh Government-sponsored body, responsible for funding and developing the arts in Wales. Established within the Arts Council of Great Britain in 1946, as the Welsh Arts Council ( cy, Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru), its English name was changed to the Arts Council of Wales when it was independently established by royal charter on 30 March 1994 (the Welsh name remained the same), upon its merger with the three Welsh regional arts associations. William Geraint Oliver Morgan, QC (2 November 1920 – 2 July 1995) was a British Conservative Party politician, lawyer, champion of the Welsh language and a veteran of the Second World War. Biography Geraint Morgan was born in the Llandeilo area of Carmarthenshire, the son of dairy farmer Morgan Morgan (1888–1950) and Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Oliver (1893–1980). The family subsequently relocated to Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, where his father continued farming at Woad Farm, Lathbury. Morgan was educated at Bedford School, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. Bi-lingual from an early age in Welsh and English, he learnt French to a high standard at school and added German and Italian by his own efforts. 1959 United Kingdom General Election
The 1959 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 8 October 1959. It marked a third consecutive victory for the ruling Conservative Party, now led by Harold Macmillan. For the second time in a row, the Conservatives increased their overall majority in Parliament, this time to a landslide majority of 100 seats, having gained 20 seats for a return of 365. The Labour Party, led by Hugh Gaitskell, lost 19 seats and returned 258. The Liberal Party, led by Jo Grimond, again returned only six MPs to the House of Commons, but managed to increase its overall share of the vote to 5.9%, compared to just 2.7% four years earlier. Plaid Cymru ( ; ; officially Plaid Cymru – the Party of Wales, often referred to simply as Plaid) is a centre-left to left-wing, Welsh nationalist political party in Wales, committed to Welsh independence from the United Kingdom.
