Globe Hill Station
Globe Hill Station is a defunct pastoral lease that was once a sheep station and a cattle station in Western Australia. It is situated approximately south of Onslow and east of Exmouth in the Pilbara region. The property shared a boundary with Minderoo and Nanutarra Station. The traditional owners of the area are the Thalanyji peoples, who know the area as ''Wurrumarlu'' or the Globe Hill country. The property was established at some time prior to 1883, and was trading wool in that year. George McRae and another man named Harper owned the property in 1884 and it had been substantially improved with wells, pumps and a wool shed having all been built, and was stocked with 14,000 sheep. In 1907 the property was still running sheep and was owned by McRae. Frederick Bedford and Thomas Frederick de Pledge acquired the station in 1909 for £35,000. A sheep station is a large property ( station, the equivalent of a ranch) in Australia or New Zealand, whose main activity is the raising of sheep for their wool and/or meat. Frederick Bedford
Admiral Sir Frederick George Denham Bedford, (24 December 1838 – 30 January 1913) was a senior Royal Navy officer and Governor of Western Australia from 24 March 1903 to 22 April 1909. Naval career Bedford was born on 24 December 1838, and joined the Royal Navy at the age of 14. He later served in the Crimean War. Bedford was appointed Commander-in-Chief, Cape of Good Hope and West Coast of Africa Station in 1892: in 1894, Bedford was involved in an action against Nana Olomu Chief of Benin. Brohomi was burnt down in 1894 by a combined force of the British Naval Brigade and the Niger Coast Protectorate Force under Bedford and the Consul-General Ralph Moor. It is believed over 500–600 slaves were freed during the operation. Pastoral leases in Western Australia are increasingly known as "stations", and more particular – as either sheep stations or cattle stations. They are usually found in country that is designated as rangeland. In 2013 there were a total of 527 pastoral leases in Western Australia. And all leases were put up for renewal or surrender in 2015. Stations/pastoral leases are a significant part of Western Australian history. At different stages inquiries, pleas for extensions of lease times and royal commissions have been made into the industry. The Heritage Council of Western Australia is the Government of Western Australia agency created to identify, conserve and promote places of cultural heritage significance in the state. Yanrey Station
Yanrey Station, often referred to as Yanrey, is a pastoral lease that operates as a sheep station. It is located about south east of Exmouth and south of Onslow in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Yanrey occupies an area of and shares boundaries with Minderoo, Koordarrie, Giralia, Nanutarra, Uaroo and Nyang Stations. The station is made up of broad sandy plains with areas of alluvial clay plains. The Yannanie River flows north-south through the property with flood plains extending outward. The property is able to hold a maximum number of 47,000 sheep. The station was originally established by John and David Stewart. It was sold to Thomas Frederick de Pledge following the death of John Stewart. The ''Geraldton Guardian'' was established at Geraldton, Western Australia on 1 October 1906 to serve the Victoria and Murchison Districts. It was launched on principles of liberal democracy, state rights, nationalism and British preference. Thomas Frederick De Pledge
Thomas Frederick de Pledge (1867–1954) was an Australian pioneer and pastoralist. The son of Reverend Joseph De Pledge, he was born in Durham in 1867. Educated at Aldenham in Hertfordshire, he left for Australia at age 18 aboard the ''Australind'' and disembarked at Fremantle. He set of for Bunbury and worked on a farm for less than a year then left for the Ashburton region. Working on a Minderoo Station for seven years for David Forrest and Septimus Burt he later moved to Globe Hill Station to work for McCrae and Harper, first of an overseer and then as a manager. In 1897 de Pledge was appointed as manager at Yanrey Station by the estate of John Stuart. He bought the property in 1898 when it occupied an area of and three years later acquired neighbouring properties; Yannangal and Yannaney.
