Global Challenges Foundation
The Global Challenges Foundation is a Swedish non-profit organization that seeks to raise awareness of global catastrophic risk and the global governance necessary to handle these risks. This includes examining models for UN reform, as well as initiating new ideas for a functioning global governance. It was founded in 2012 with a donation by the Hungarian billionaire László Szombatfalvy who lives in Sweden. The foundation is part of the Foundations Platform F20, a global network of foundations and other philanthropic organizations. Foundation The foundation is based in Stockholm. Its board members include Johan Rockström, the fourth AP Fund's former CEO Mats Andersson, and professor Folke Tersman. László Szombatfalvy
László Szombatfalvy (born 9 October 1927 in Budapest, Hungary, dead 10 August 2022 in Stockholm, Sweden) was a businessman and author living in Stockholm, Sweden. Szombatfalvy fled to Sweden in 1956 following the Hungarian uprising of that year. He arrived with two empty hands and worked initially in a variety of jobs including as a magician in the refugee camps, before gradually becoming interested in the stock market. His interest in stock led to his development of a method of risk calculation for investments for which he became well known on the Swedish stock market. In the late 1980s his interests turned toward entirely different matters and he withdrew from the market. Over the past couple of years his attention has focused on the application of his risk assessment method to new fields. The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP 21 or CMP 11 was held in Paris, France, from 30 November to 12 December 2015. It was the 21st yearly session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 11th session of the Meeting of the Parties (CMP) to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. The conference negotiated the Paris Agreement, a global agreement on the reduction of climate change, the text of which represented a consensus of the representatives of the 196 attending parties. ''China Daily'' () is an English-language daily newspaper owned by the Central Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Party. Mary Therese Winifred Robinson ( ga, Máire Mhic Róibín; ; born 21 May 1944) is an Irish politician who was the 7th president of Ireland, serving from December 1990 to September 1997, the first woman to hold this office. Gro Brundtland (; born Gro Harlem, 20 April 1939) is a Norwegian politician (Arbeiderpartiet), who served three terms as the 29th prime minister of Norway (1981, 1986–89, and 1990–96) and as the director-general of the World Health Organization from 1998 to 2003. She is also known for having chaired the Brundtland Commission which presented the Brundtland Report on sustainable development.
