Glasgow Tigers (BAFACL)
The Glasgow Tigers are an American Football club based in Glasgow, Scotland, who compete in the BAFA National Leagues NFC 1 Scotland, the second level of British American Football. They operate from Nethercraigs (Corkerhill) and were formed in 1986 as the Strathclyde Sheriffs but opted to rebrand in 2002. They were the 1988 Champions of the now defunct Scottish Caledonian Bowl in which they defeated the Ness Monsters. History The Glasgow Tigers, originally known as the Strathclyde Sheriffs, trace their origins back to 1985 when 50 prospective players put £50 each into a kitty to form the club. The Sheriffs were run by officers from the Strathclyde Police Force and entered their first regular season in 1986 where they managed an 8–2 season, just missing out on the playoffs. BAFA National Leagues
The BAFANL (BAFA National Leagues) are the primary American football domestic League competition in Great Britain. The League is run by the British American Football Association to coordinate contact football within England, Scotland and Wales. Originally formed in the 1980s, the League was reformed in 2010 following the collapse of the British American Football League, which had run in a number of different guises since the early 1980s. Previous names of the League were the UKAFL (UK American Football League), the Budweiser League and the BNGL (British National Gridiron League). From 1998 until 2005 the League was known as the BSL (British Senior League). Tensions grew between the directors of BAFL and those of the British American Football Association, the governing body throughout 2009 and at the beginning of 2010, BAFL formally, but unconstitutionally, withdrew from BAFA. American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end.
