Giulianova
Giulianova ( Giuliese: ' ) is a coastal town and ''comune'' in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo region, Italy. The ''comune'' also has city ( it, città) status, thus also known as Città di Giulianova. Geography The town lies in the north of the Abruzzo region, between the Salinello and the Tordino rivers. Giulianova is split between the ''Paese'', the historic town up in the hills, and the ''lido'', the more recent development down by the beach. Tourism plays a big part in the town's economy. The town, characterized by several beaches, is a summer retreat for people from large cities like Rome and Milan, as well as German and French tourists. History In pre-Roman times, the Praetutii tribe had a settlement there. In 3rd century BCE Romans established a colony called Castrum Novum in the vicinity of Giulianova. Giulianova Calcio S.r.l. was an Italian association football club based in Giulianova, Abruzzo. The team failed to renew its license for professional football in 2012. After 4 years' dormancy, the new owner of the club applied to play in 2016–17 5-a-side football, composed of players from folded Città di Giulianova. After 2012, few phoenix clubs emerged: A.S.D. Real Giulianova S.s.d. a r.l. is an Italian football club based in Giulianova, in the Province of Teramo, Abruzzo region. Real Giulianova is a phoenix club of Giulianova and Città di Giulianova, after Real Giulianova was relocated and renamed from Castellalto in 2016. The club currently plays in Serie D. Sanctuary Madonna Of The Splendor
The Sanctuary Madonna of the Splendor is a shrine in Giulianova, Province of Teramo, central Italy. Next to the shrine stand a convent, a miraculous spring water fountain, and a museum. The sanctuary is served by Capuchin fathers. Structure The church is built in the form of a Latin cross, and is decorated with large paintings made in 1954 by Alfonso Tentarelli according to the project of father Jean Lerario; there is a wooden statue of Mary with Jesus blessing child of the fifteenth century (unknown author) called "''Madonna dello Splendore''". On August 15, 1914, a golden silver crown, made by the Migliori family, was placed on the head of the Virgin. Around 1950, the statue was surrounded by rays, symbol of divine light, and placed above a tree to remember the olive tree in which it appeared in 1557. Egidio De Maulo (4 September 1840 – 14 November 1922) was an Italian painter mainly of landscapes and still lifes. Biography Born in Giulianova, Italy, a young Egidio moved to Naples where he successfully painted landscapes and still lifes among the painters who were part of the School of Posillipo. Gabriele Tarquini (born 2 March 1962) is an Italian racing driver. He participated in 78 Formula One Grands Prix, debuting on May 3, 1987. He scored a single championship point, and holds the record for the most failed attempts to qualify. Lorenzo Piattoni (27 September 1955 – 14 August 2016), known professionally as Lorenzo Piani, was an Italian singer and songwriter. Biography After studying classical piano at the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro, he released a single. As a musician, he has performed in many countries, including for King Hussein of Jordan.
