Gisela Kaplan
Gisela Kaplan is an Australians, Australian ethologist who primarily specialises in ornithology and primatology. She is a professor emeritus in animal behaviour at the University of New England (Australia), University of New England, Australia, and also honorary professor of the Queensland Brain Institute. Academic career Kaplan graduated from Monash University with a Doctor of Philosophy. She published her first book with Clive Kessler, ''Hannah Arendt: Thinking, Judging, Freedom'' in 1989, followed by ''Contemporary Western European Feminism'' in 1990. In 2005, she submitted a second thesis, titled ''Vocal behaviour of Australian magpies (Gymnorhina tibicen).'' Royal Society Of New South Wales
The Royal Society of New South Wales is a learned society based in Sydney, Australia. The Governor of New South Wales is the vice-regal patron of the Society. The Society was established as the Philosophical Society of Australasia on 27 June 1821. In 1850, after a period of informal activity, the Society was revived and its name became the Australian Philosophical Society and, in 1856, the Philosophical Society of New South Wales. The Society was granted Royal Assent on 12 December 1866 and at that time was renamed the Royal Society of New South Wales. Membership is open to any person interested in the promotion of studies in Science, Art, Literature and Philosophy. Whitley Awards (Australia)
The Whitley Awards have been awarded annually since 1979 by the Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales (RZSNSW). They commemorate Gilbert Whitley, an eminent Australian ichthyologist, and are presented for outstanding publications, either printed or electronic, that contain new information about the fauna of the Australasian region. For a publication to receive a Whitley Award it must either make a significant contribution of new information, present a new synthesis of existing information, or present existing information in a more acceptable form. All texts must contain a significant proportion of information that relates directly to Australasian zoology. Moreover, all submissions must have been published within 18 months of the awards entry date.
