Donosti Gipuzkoa Basket 2001 Saskibaloi Kirol Elkartea S.A.D., commonly known as Gipuzkoa Basket and as Acunsa GBC for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club based in San Sebastián, Gipuzkoa, Spain. The team plays in the LEB Oro. Their home arena is Donostia Arena. History Gipuzkoa Basket started competing in LEB 2, third tier. After a first season where the club finished in 11th position out of sixteen teams, it ceased in activity until 2004, when it came back to LEB 2. In the 2004–05 LEB 2 season, despite finishing in the second position of the regular season, Gipuzkoa BC was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the promotion playoffs by Ciudad de La Laguna. Liga Española De Baloncesto
The Liga Española de Baloncesto, also known as LEB Oro, is the second basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system after the Liga ACB. It is run by the FEB. The Liga Española de Baloncesto is divided into two categories (the other one is the LEB Plata). The LEB league was founded in 1996 and is played under FIBA rules. It was renamed LEB Oro in 2007. The league is contested by 18 clubs. Each season, the top-finishing team in the LEB Oro are automatically promoted to the Liga ACB. The teams that finish the season in 2nd to 9th place enter a playoff tournament, with the winner also gaining promotion to the Liga ACB. The three lowest-finishing teams in the LEB Oro are relegated to LEB Plata. Alfonso Alonso Blasco, commonly known as Sito Alonso, (born December 4, 1975) is a Spanish basketball coach who is the head coach for UCAM Murcia of the Spanish Liga ACB. Coaching career Pro clubs Alonso made his coaching debut in the Liga Endesa (Spanish League) in 2008, with Joventut Badalona, a team where he had previously worked as an assistant coach. He was sacked by the club in March 2010, after his team's poor results in Spain's national domestic league and in European-wide competition. Club Baloncesto Ciudad de Valladolid, also known as Real Valladolid Baloncesto by sponsorship reasons, is a Spanish professional basketball team based in Valladolid, Castile and León. The team currently plays in league LEB Oro. History CB Ciudad de Valladolid was founded in June 2015 by the former American-Spanish retired player Mike Hansen with the aim to replace CB Valladolid, the main club of the city, which was dissolved at the end of the 2014–15 season. In its first season, in LEB Plata, Ciudad de Valladolid was relegated after finishing the league with only nine wins in 26 games. However, the club remained the league due to the existence of vacant spots. The Copa Princesa de Asturias de Baloncesto (English: ''Princess of Asturias' Cup of Basketball'') is an annual 2nd-tier level national cup competition for Spanish professional basketball teams, that is organized by Spain's 2nd-tier level professional league, the Liga Española de Baloncesto (LEB). The 2016–17 LEB Oro season will be the 21st season of the Spanish basketball second league LEB Oro. Dates must be determined yet. Teams On 20 July 2016 the Spanish Basketball Federation confirmed the expansion of the league to 18 teams. The 2010–11 season was the last one with this number.
