Donosti Gipuzkoa Basket 2001 Saskibaloi Kirol Elkartea S.A.D., commonly known as Gipuzkoa Basket and as Acunsa GBC for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club based in San Sebastián, Gipuzkoa, Spain. The team plays in the LEB Oro. Their home arena is Donostia Arena. History Gipuzkoa Basket started competing in LEB 2, third tier. After a first season where the club finished in 11th position out of sixteen teams, it ceased in activity until 2004, when it came back to LEB 2. In the 2004–05 LEB 2 season, despite finishing in the second position of the regular season, Gipuzkoa BC was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the promotion playoffs by Ciudad de La Laguna. Liga Española De Baloncesto
The Liga Española de Baloncesto, also known as LEB Oro, is the second basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system after the Liga ACB. It is run by the FEB. The Liga Española de Baloncesto is divided into two categories (the other one is the LEB Plata). The LEB league was founded in 1996 and is played under FIBA rules. It was renamed LEB Oro in 2007. The league is contested by 18 clubs. Each season, the top-finishing team in the LEB Oro are automatically promoted to the Liga ACB. The teams that finish the season in 2nd to 9th place enter a playoff tournament, with the winner also gaining promotion to the Liga ACB. The three lowest-finishing teams in the LEB Oro are relegated to LEB Plata. Alfonso Alonso Blasco, commonly known as Sito Alonso, (born December 4, 1975) is a Spanish basketball coach who is the head coach for UCAM Murcia of the Spanish Liga ACB. Coaching career Pro clubs Alonso made his coaching debut in the Liga Endesa (Spanish League) in 2008, with Joventut Badalona, a team where he had previously worked as an assistant coach. He was sacked by the club in March 2010, after his team's poor results in Spain's national domestic league and in European-wide competition. The 2016–17 LEB Oro season will be the 21st season of the Spanish basketball second league LEB Oro. Dates must be determined yet.
