Giovanni Maria Galli Da Bibiena
Giovanni Maria Galli (1625–1665), called Giovanni Maria da Bibiena, was an Italian painter, born at Bibiena in 1625. He studied under Albani, and his productions have often been mistaken for those of his master. He died in 1665. Of his larger works in the churches at Bologna the following are the most esteemed: ''The Ascension,'' in the Certosa; ''St. Anne,'' in Santa Maria della Carità; ''St. Andrew,'' in San Biagio; and ''St. Francis of Sales,'' at the Padri Servi. This artist was the founder of a family of whom no fewer than nine are known to fame, all of whom bore the surname of Bibiena. Bibbiena () is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany (Italy), the largest town in the valley of Casentino. It is located from Florence, from Arezzo, from Siena, and from the Sanctuary of La Verna. There are approximately 11,833 inhabitants The town is on top of a hill at an elevation of . Francesco Albani
Francesco Albani or Albano (17 March or 17 August 1578 – 4 October 1660) was an Italian Baroque painter who was active in Bologna (1591–1600), Rome (1600–1609), Bologna (1609), Viterbo (1609–1610), Bologna (1610), Rome (1610–1617), Bologna (1618–1660), Mantova (1621–1622), Roma (1623–1625) and Florence (1633). Early years in Bologna Albani was born in Bologna, Italy in 1578. His father was a silk merchant who intended his son to go into his own trade. By the age of twelve, however, he had become an apprentice to the competent mannerist painter Denis Calvaert, in whose studio he met Guido Reni. He soon followed Reni to the so-called "Academy" run by Annibale, Agostino, and Ludovico Carracci. This studio fostered the careers of many painters of the Bolognese school, including Domenichino, Massari, Viola, Lanfranco, Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi, Pietro Faccini, Remigio Cantagallina, and Reni. Certosa Di Bologna
The Certosa di Bologna is a former Carthusian monastery (or charterhouse) in Bologna, northern Italy, which was founded in 1334 and suppressed in 1797. In 1801 it became the city's Monumental Cemetery which would be much praised by Byron and others. In 1869 an Etruscan necropolis, which had been in use from the sixth to the third centuries BC, was discovered here. The Certosa is located just outside the walls of the city, near the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara, at the foot of the Monte della Guardia and the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca. The church The church is dedicated to Saint Jerome (San Girolamo). The painting over the high altar is ''The Crucifixion'' by Bartolomeo Cesi; to the left is a ''Prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane'' and to the right a ''Deposition'', also by Cesi. Santa Maria Della Carità, Bologna
Santa Maria della Carità is a Renaissance-style Roman Catholic church in central Bologna, Italy. History By mid-13th century, an administrator under Pope Gregory IX, founded a hospital at an adjacent lot. For a time, it was an orphanage. A chapel, attached to a hospital, existed by 1378. From the 15th to the 18th century, the church and convent were attached to a Franciscan order. The present layout dates from 1583, by designs of Pietro Fiorini. It was enlarged with the addition of four large chapels in 1680 under the designs of Giovanni Battista Bergonzoni, a Franciscan theologian. The interior is decorated with paintings by prominent Baroque painters. In the first chapel on the right is a ''Visitation'' by Il Galanino. Basilica Di Santa Maria Dei Servi
Santa Maria dei Servi is a Roman Catholic basilica in Bologna, Italy. It was founded in 1346, as the church of the Servite Community of the Blessed Virgin Mary and was designed by Andrea da Faenza, a head friar and architect who also assisted Antonio di Vincenzo on the monumental Basilica of San Petronio. In the 20th century, Pope Pius XII granted the church the status of "basilica". Architecture Interior The basilica is 100 metres long by 20 metres wide. It has the form of a Latin cross but the transepts do not project beyond the aisles. The shallow apse is five segments of an octagon, as is common in Italian Gothic churches. It was designed in the Gothic style with pointed arches throughout. At the death of Padre Andrea in 1396, the work was not complete.
