Giovan Domenico Vinaccia
Giovan (Gian) Domenico Vinaccia (13 March 1625, Massa Lubrense - July 1695, Naples) was an Italian architect, goldsmith, engineer and sculptor. Life He learned sculpture and architecture from Dionisio Lazzari. His first surviving independent work was the 1661 choir stalls in San Pietro ad Aram. Three years later he produced the high altar for the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of St. Januarius in Naples Cathedral, showing archbishop Alessandro Carafa who had brought St Januarius' relics to Naples. He also produced reliquaries for the Chiesa del Gesù Nuovo and designed another high altarpiece in Sant'Anna dei Lombardi, although the latter was actually carved by the Ghetti brothers. The architectural-sculptural scheme in Santa Maria dei Miracoli was also carved by him. Santa Maria Dei Miracoli, Naples
Santa Maria dei Miracoli is a basilica church located in the largo dei Miracoli, near Via Foria in the city center of Naples, Italy. The neighborhood is named that of ''Miracoli'' or Miracles. History The construction of the church was started in the 17th century in a zone near the northern limits; in the same period a convent of the same name was built and assigned to the Reformed Conventuals of St Lawrence (padri Rifornati Conventuali di San Lorenzo). In 1660 the complex came under the jurisdiction of the aristocratic association of Pio Monte della Misericordia, and later of a nunnery allied with the Franciscan Order. A restoration led by Francesco Antonio Picchiatti, who availed himself of the collaboration of Cosimo Fanzago and Domenico Tango. Lorenzo Vaccaro
Lorenzo Vaccaro (1655 – 10 August 1706) was an Italian late-Baroque sculptor. He worked in a formalized restrained style. He was born in Naples, the son of a lawyer. He apprenticed with Cosimo Fanzago and Dionisio Lazzari. He was a close friend of Francesco Solimena. He was murdered at Torre del Greco in August 1706. Sant'Andrea Delle Dame Complex
Sant'Andrea delle Dame was an Augustinian monastery church dedicated to Saint Andrew with associated cloister and monastic buildings in Naples. The monastic buildings later became one of the buildings of the Università degli studi di Napoli and - after the establishment of the medicine faculty of the Università degli Studi della Campania Luigi Vanvitelli - now house that faculty's Naples headquarters. It was founded by four daughters of the notary Andrea Palescandolo in 1580 and designed either by their Theatine brother Marco Palescandolo or by Francesco Grimaldi. It opened on 7 March 1587, with the cloister completed early in the 17th century and a belvedere-style cloister known as the "Torretta reale" added in 1748. It was suppressed under the French occupation and the monastic church was deconsecrated in 1884. San Giuseppe dei Ruffi or church of San Giuseppe dei Ruffo is a church located on piazzetta San Giuseppe dei Ruffi, in Naples, Italy. History The church was part of an Augustinian order monastery founded in 1604 by a group of aristocratic Neapolitan noblewomen: including Cassandra Caracciolo; Ippolita and Caterina Ruffo; and Caterina Tomacelli. They obtained from the Prince of Avellino, the old palace of the family Arcella, and surrounding houses, to build their monastery and church. In 1611, more nuns transferred here from the convent of Santa Maria degli Angeli, renaming the convent San Giuseppe; a few years later they decide to build a new church and cloister. The project from 1630 was directed by Dionisio Nencioni di Bartolomeo, who was also the architect for the church of the Girolamini. By 1636, nearly all the cloister was complete. Santa Maria Donnaregina Nuova
Santa Maria Donnregina Nuova is a church in central Naples, Italy. It is called ''Nuova'' ("new") to distinguish it from the older Angevin church of Santa Maria Donna Regina Vecchia. History The earliest church was built on this location in the 14th century. The nuns from the adjacent monastery commissioned the new structure. While traditionally the architect Giovanni Guarino, a pupil of Francesco Grimaldi was cited as the architect of the present Baroque church, more recent documentation cites Giovanni Giacomo Conforto. The first documented payments for design were from 1626, which is also when the facade was completed. The marble portal was completed by Bernardino Landini in 1634, and the cupola in 1654.
