Giorgos Vovoras
Georgios Vovoras (alternate spellings: Giorgos, Yiorgos, Yorgos) ( el, Γιώργος Βόβορας; born January 18, 1977) is a Greek professional basketball coach, who is currently an assistant coach for Panathinaikos of the Greek Basket League and the EuroLeague. Coaching career Vovoras was the head coach of the Greek club OFI Irakleio, in the 3rd-tier level Greek B League, from 2008 to 2009. He was an assistant coach with the Greek club Peristeri, from 2010 to 2011. He then became an assistant coach with the Greek Basket League club Panathinaikos, from 2012 to 2014. He then worked as an assistant coach with the Russian VTB United League club UNICS Kazan, during the 2014–15 season. He was next the head coach of the Cypriot League club APOEL Nicosia, during the 2015–16 season. With APOEL Nicosia, he won the 2016 Cypriot Cup. Greek Basket League
The Greek Basket League (GBL), often also referred to as the Greek A1 Basketball League, or Greek Basketball Championship (originally called Panhellenic Basketball Championship), and also known as the Stoiximan Basket League for sponsorship reasons, is the first tier level professional basketball league in Greece. It is run by HEBA ( el, ΕΣΑΚΕ, link=no), under the legal authority of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.). It is the highest-tier level of the Greek league system. The GBL plays under FIBA rules and currently consists of 13 teams, with the lowest-placed team relegated to the A2 Basket League and replaced by the winner of the play-offs of that tier. The Greek B Basket League, or Greek B Basketball League (Greek: Ελληνική Β Μπασκετ Λιγκ), is a national basketball league in Greece. The Greek basketball league system is a number of interconnected competitions for professional basketball clubs in Greece. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation system between competitions at different levels. There are several different competitions in the system. OFI Crete B.C. (Greek: Ό.Φ.Η. K.A.E.) is a Greek professional basketball club that is located on the Greek island of Crete, in Heraklion. It is a part of the OFI Crete multi sports club. The club's full name is Club of Fans of Heraklion 1925 (Όμιλος Φιλάθλων Ηρακλείου 1925). History The club's parent athletic association, OFI Crete, was founded in 1925. 2019–20 Greek Basket League
The 2019–20 Greek betshop.gr Basket League was the 80th season of the Greek Basket League, the top-tier level professional club basketball league in Greece. The season started in September 2019, and ended prematurely in March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 21 May 2020, after a vote that was held between the league's 14 teams, Panathinaikos was crowned the Greek basketball league's champion for the season, marking the club's 38th Greek championship. The league's 14 teams also agreed that none of the teams would be relegated. The 2018–19 Greek betshop.gr Basket League was the 79th season of the Greek Basket League, the top-tier level professional club basketball league in Greece. The season started on 7 October 2018, and ended on 15 June 2019. Panathinaikos OPAP won the Greek Basket League championship for a record 37th time, after beating Promitheas Patras 3–0 in the Finals. The season infamously featured a major feud between traditional rivals Panathinaikos and Olympiacos over refereeing decisions in the 2019 Greek Cup semifinals game between the two teams, which eventually culminated in Olympiacos also forfeiting their playoffs.
