Giorgia Palmas (born 5 March 1982) is an Italian television personality, actress and model. She became famous following her appearances on the Italian television show '' Striscia la notizia''. Biography Palmas was born in Cagliari. She began her career in the year 2000, coming second in Miss World, losing to Miss India, Priyanka Chopra. In 2001, she was in ''Buona Domenica'', as a microfonina. In 2002, she won the television show '' Veline'', becoming the brunette velina, in pair with Elena Barolo, the new blonde velina. For two television seasons, 2002/2003 and 2003/2004, she was a velina in ''Striscia la notizia'', gaining her a lot of popularity. After leaving ''Striscia la notizia'' she appeared in Italia 1 summer edition of ''Lucignolo'', with Elena Barolo. In September of the same year she was in Rai 1 show, ''I Raccomandati''. ''Total Request Live'' is the Italian version of the American television program of the same name that originated in 1999. Originally broadcast weekdays at 2.00 p.m., its time slot was changed as it ran into its second season. It was broadcast at 3.00 p.m. starting in 2002. The main presenters, during the ten seasons, were Alessandro Cattelan, Giorgia Surina, Marco Maccarini, Carolina Di Domenico, and Federico Russo. As from June 2, 2008 the show is hosted by Elena Santarelli and Carlo Pastore, who presented another music programme of MTV, ''Your Noise''. Miss World 2000, the 50th anniversary of the Miss World pageant, was held on 30 November 2000 at the Millennium Dome in London, United Kingdom. The pageant's swimsuit segment was filmed in the Maldives. The pageant was the first since the death of pageant owner Eric Morley, whose widow Julia Morley assumed responsibility for the event. The pageant had 95 contestants, the highest number of Miss World participants at that time. The pageant was won by Priyanka Chopra of India, at the age of 18. She was crowned by her predecessor Yukta Mookhey also from India. She is the fifth Miss World and the second consecutive winner from her country.
