Gillig Spirit
The Gillig Spirit is a bus that was manufactured by Gillig Corporation from 1989 to 1991. Marketed as a lower-cost alternative to the Gillig Phantom, the Spirit was produced as a transit bus. Through its production run, the Spirit was produced in a 28-foot length, with a 96-inch wide body; like the Phantom, the Spirit was a high-floor bus. In total, 250 examples of the Gillig Spirit were produced from its Hayward, California facility; all were sold in the United States. Gillig (formerly Gillig Brothers) is an American designer and Bus manufacturing, manufacturer of buses. High-floor
High-floor describes the interior flooring of commuter vehicles primarily used in public transport such as trains, light rail cars and other rail vehicles, along with buses and trolleybuses. Interior floor height is generally measured above the street surface or above the top of the rail. High-floor designs usually result from packaging requirements: mechanical items such as axles, motors, crankshafts, and/or transmissions, or luggage storage spaces are traditionally placed under the interior floor of these vehicles. The term is used in contrast with low-floor designs, which offer a decreased floor and entry height above the street surface. Gillig Phantom
The Gillig Phantom is a series of buses that was produced by an American manufacturer Gillig Corporation in Hayward, California. The successor to the long-running Gillig Transit Coach model line, the Phantom marked the transition of Gillig from a producer of yellow school buses to that of transit buses. The first transit bus assembled entirely by Gillig (from 1977 to 1979, the company assembled a few buses in a joint venture with Neoplan), the Phantom was produced exclusively as a high-floor bus (with step entrance). As operator needs shifted towards low-entry buses in North America, Gillig introduced the Gillig H2000LF/Low Floor. Initially produced alongside the Low Floor, in 2008, Gillig ended production of the Phantom to concentrate entirely on low-floor bus production.
