Gilbert Ronald Bainbridge
Gilbert Ronald Bainbridge (1925–2003) was a British nuclear physicist, engineer and farmer. Personal life and education Gilbert Ronald Bainbridge was born 28 November 1925 at Felling, Gateshead, County Durham. He attended Jarrow County Secondary School, and matriculated at Durham University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts with honors in physics, at Hatfield College in December 1946. His doctoral research there, on ''The Emission of Ionizing Radiation during a Spark Discharge,'' was supervised by W. A. Prowse, and in 1953 Bainbridge was awarded a PhD In 1978, Bainbridge incorporated Cerrig Y Barcud farm in Anglesey, North Wales. He was also a Justice of the Peace. He died 13 August 2003 at Glan Rhos Nursing Home, Anglesey. Career In 1945 he began working for the Admiralty in Greenock, and he conducted torpedo research at Faslane. Felling, Tyne And Wear
Felling is an eastern suburb of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, England. The town was formed when three villages coalesced in the 19th century. Historically part of County Durham, the town was subsumed into the metropolitan borough of Gateshead in 1974. Wylfa Nuclear Power Station
Wylfa nuclear power station ( cy, Atomfa'r Wylfa) is a Magnox nuclear power station undergoing decommissioning. Wylfa is situated west of Cemaes Bay on the island of Anglesey, off the northwestern coast of Wales. Construction of the two 490MW nuclear reactors, known as Reactor 1 and Reactor 2, began in 1963. They became operational in 1971. Wylfa was located on the coast because seawater was used as a coolant. In 2012, Reactor 2 was shut down. Trawsfynydd (; Welsh for "across hemountain") is a linear village in Gwynedd, Wales, near Llyn Trawsfynydd reservoir, and adjacent to the A470 north of Bronaber and Dolgellau and 10 km (6 miles) south of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Tōkai Nuclear Power Plant
The was Japan's first commercial nuclear power plant. The first unit was built in the early 1960s to the British Magnox design, and generated power from 1966 until it was decommissioned in 1998. A second unit, built at the site in the 1970s, was the first in Japan to produce over 1000 MW of electricity. Dounreay (; gd, Dùnrath) is a small settlement and the site of two large nuclear establishments on the north coast of Caithness in the Highland area of Scotland. It is on the A836 road west of Thurso. The nuclear establishments were created in the 1950s. They were the Nuclear Power Development Establishment (NPDE) for the development of civil fast breeder reactors, and the Vulcan Naval Reactor Test Establishment (NRTE), a military submarine reactor testing facility. Sellafield is a large multi-function nuclear site close to Seascale on the coast of Cumbria, England.
