Gilbert Chandler
Sir Gilbert Lawrence Chandler KBE, CMG (29 August 1903 – 8 April 1974) was a Liberal Party politician who served in the Bolte Ministry in Victoria. Chandler, a horticulturist, was educated at Scotch College in Melbourne. As a 25-year-old, Chandler played a game for the Hawthorn Football Club in the 1928 VFL season. He became a partner in his family's nursery at The Basin in Bayswater before following his father, Alfred, into politics. When Alfred Chandler died in 1935, Gilbert won the subsequent by-election and took his place as the United Australia Party representative for Southern Province in the Victorian Legislative Council. In 1935, Chandler also joined the Fern Tree Gully Shire Council, and served as its president in 1938 and 1939. He switched to the Liberal Party in 1943. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. Henry Bolte
Sir Henry Edward Bolte GCMG (20 May 1908 – 4 January 1990) was an Australian politician who served as the 38th Premier of Victoria. To date he is the longest-serving Victorian premier, having been in office for over 17 consecutive years. Early years Henry Bolte () was born in Ballarat, the son of a publican of German descent. Roy Rawson
Roy Robert Rawson (11 May 1898 – 14 June 1971) was an Australian politician. Early life He was born at Woods Point to gold miner Robert Rawson and Ellen Smith. From the age of fourteen, he was employed in a Melbourne warehouse, and in 1916 he campaigned against military conscription. From 1916 to 1918 he was a wireless operator for the Royal Australian Navy, and after the war, he managed first a tea room in Bourke Street and then, from 1922, a bookshop in Swanston Street. William Angliss
Sir William Charles Angliss (29 January 1865 – 15 June 1957) was a butcher, pastoralist, pioneering meat exporter, businessman, and politician in Melbourne, Australia. Biography He was the eldest son of William Angliss, tailor, and his wife Eliza Fiddian, born in Dudley, Worcestershire, England. He was educated at Hawkhurst, Kent, and learnt the butcher's trade as a youth, working first with an uncle in London before migrating to New York. After two and a half years in North America, he migrated to Rockhampton, Queensland in 1884. After working for a time in Brisbane and Sydney, he moved to Melbourne in 1886, where he set up a butchers shop in North Carlton. Southern Province (also known as South Province) was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Council. Southern Province was created in 1856, after the colony of Victoria obtained self-government. William Lionel Russell Clarke (31 March 1876 – 14 May 1954) was an Australian politician. Charles Gartside
Charles Percival Gartside (28 October 1887 – 11 August 1958) was an Australian politician. He was born in East Brighton to engineer James Gartside and Georgiana Edgley. He attended Cheltenham State School and became a market gardener at Dingley. On 6 May 1914 he married Eva Lillian Battley, with whom he had two sons. From 1916, in partnership with his brothers, he formed Gartside Brothers vegetable dehydration firm, gradually expanding the business to become a large cannery. William Tyner
William Tyner (28 May 1872 – 7 November 1954) was an Australian politician. He was born in Prahran to produce merchant William Tyner and Letitia Anderson. He attended state schools before joining the family firm. On 27 February 1903 he married Martha Weller, with whom he had two daughters. South Eastern Province was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Council from November 1882. It was created in the redistribution of provinces in 1882 when the original provinces of Central and Eastern were abolished. Alfred Elliott Chandler (1 July 1873 – 12 February 1935) was an Australian politician. Personal He was born in Malvern, Victoria to market gardener William Chandler and Kate Timewell. He attended state school and became a horticulturist, running a nursery in Boronia. On 24 May 1897, he married Elizabeth Ann Intermann, with whom he had one daughter. The Gilbert Chandler College was a higher education institution in Werribee, Victoria, Australia. It was a standalone institution from 1939 to 1981, a college of the Victorian College of Agriculture and Horticulture from 1983 to 1997, and a campus of the University of Melbourne from 1997 to 2005. The site was later used as a campus of the Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE until 2020. It was established in 1939 as the Department of Agriculture-run School of Dairy Technology.
