Charles Gartside
Charles Percival Gartside (28 October 1887 – 11 August 1958) was an Australian politician. He was born in East Brighton to engineer James Gartside and Georgiana Edgley. He attended Cheltenham State School and became a market gardener at Dingley. On 6 May 1914 he married Eva Lillian Battley, with whom he had two sons. From 1916, in partnership with his brothers, he formed Gartside Brothers vegetable dehydration firm, gradually expanding the business to become a large cannery. From 1922 to 1940 he served on Dandenong Shire Council, with two periods as president (1926–27, 1932–33). In 1937 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council as a United Australia Party member for South Eastern Province. From 1948 to 1950 he was Minister of Health. A supporter of Thomas Hollway, he was expelled from the Liberal and Country Party in 1952 and voted against supply to the McDonald Country Party government. Brighton East is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 12 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Bayside and Glen Eira local government areas. Brighton East recorded a population of 16,757 at the . Brighton East lies further inland from the coast of Port Philip Bay than Brighton, its affluent, neighbouring community to the west. Cyril Isaac
Cyril Everett Isaac (14 October 1884 – 17 September 1965) was an Australian politician. He was born in Brunswick to Congregationalist minister Abraham Isaac and Mary Judd. He attended state schools and became a schoolteacher, working for the Victorian Education Department from 1900. On 3 September 1907 he married Elizabeth Brown, with whom he had four children. In 1913 he was appointed a supervisor of school gardening, and pioneered several early initiatives in this area. During World War I he served with the 58th Battalion, and after the war he spent time in England studying horticulture. He ran a nursery at Noble Park from 1922. From 1928 to 1931 and 1937 to 1940 he was a member of Dandenong Shire Council, and he was also chairman of Associated Nurseries Pty Ltd from 1932 to 1965 and president of the Nurserymen and Seedsmen's Association from 1936 to 1937. George Tilley
George Leonard Tilley (9 January 1912 – 16 March 1989) was an Australian politician. He was born in Kettering and was an estate agent before entering politics. His wife Mary Jane, a schoolteacher, was vice-president of the Labor women's central organising committee, while Tilley served on Wonthaggi Borough Council and was mayor from 1950 to 1951. In 1952 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council for South Eastern Province South Eastern Province was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Council from November 1882.
