Giacinto Gigante
Giacinto Gigante (1806–1876) was an Italian painter, engraver, and teacher. He was known for his landscape and vista paintings, exemplary works of the Neapolitan School of Posillipo. Biography Early life Giacinto Gigante was born on July 11, 1806, in Posillipo, Naples. He was the first son of Gaetano Gigante and Anna Maria Fatati. Encouraged by his father, who was also a painter, Gigante began his artistic education in 1818 and began producing landscapes and portraits. Among his early works is ''Vecchio pescatore seduto'' which, next to the signature, is inscribed: "This sailor was the first figure that I made from life, in 1818." In 1820, together with the painter Achille Vianelli, Gigante began to privately frequent the atelier of Jacob Wilhelm Hüber, an academic German landscape painter. Louis Robert Gigante (March 19, 1932October 19, 2022) was an American priest of the Catholic Church and a Bronx community activist, serving as one of the borough's New York City Council members. He founded the South East Bronx Community Organization (SEBCO). Early life Gigante was born in Manhattan on March 19, 1932. His father, Salvatore, was employed as a watchmaker; his mother, Yolanda (Santasilia), worked as a seamstress. Both immigrated to the United States from Naples and did not speak English. Vincent Gigante
Vincent Louis Gigante (; March 28, 1928 – December 19, 2005), also known as "The Chin", was an American mobster who was boss of the Genovese crime family in New York City from 1981 to 2005. Gigante started out as a professional boxer who fought in 25 matches between 1944 and 1947. He then started working as a Mafia enforcer for what was then the Luciano crime family, forerunner of the Genovese family. Gigante was one of five brothers; three of them, Mario, Pasquale, and Ralph, followed him into the Mafia. Only one brother, Louis, stayed out of the crime family, instead becoming a Catholic priest. Supermercados Gigante was a large supermarket chain in Mexico. The chain expanded north of the border as well, as it also had locations in predominantly working-class Mexican-American communities of the United States. The supermarket chain was owned by parent company Group Gigante, which also operates the restaurant chain Toks, and US retail chains such as RadioShack and Office Depot in Mexico. Supermercados Gigante competed with several other chains, such as Soriana, Comercial Mexicana, Chedraui, Wal-Mart, H-E-B, Falabella (retail store), Falabella, Cencosud and Distribución y Servicio, D&S. It was not uncommon to see Wal-Mart receipts around the store touting the fact that said items are cheaper at Supermercados Gigante.
