Gibson Township is a civil township of Bay County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The township's population was 1,210 as of the 2010 census. It is included in the Bay City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Communities *Bentley is an unincorporated community in the township, situated at the intersection of Standish Road and Bentley Road. (; Elevation: 738 ft./225 m.) The community was named after Oscar Bentley, the proprietor of a sawmill. History A post office was opened on Feb 26, 1887, called Bently. The 2000 census found 1,869 people in the township, 997 of whom lived in the unincorporated portions of the township. The population was 178 at the 2020 census, up from 164 in 2010, which in turn was a decline from the figure of 222 in 2000. Geography Gibson Township is in southern Cameron County and is bordered by Lumber Township to the north, Grove Township to the east, Clearfield County to the south and Elk County to the west. The township surrounds the borough of Driftwood but is separate from it. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and , or 0.67%, is water. The Driftwood Branch and Bennett Branch of Sinnemahoning Creek flow through the township, joining at Driftwood to form Sinnemahoning Creek, which continues east across the township on its way towards the West Branch Susquehanna River.
