Gibson Country Western
The Gibson Country Western is a flat-top acoustic guitar model originally manufactured by the Gibson Guitar Corporation between 1956 (or 1955) and 1978. For the first 6(7) years of its manufacture it was a round-shouldered instrument, which changed to square-shouldered in 1962. Sheryl Crow preferred the 1962 model, and uses a modern version of her 1962 instrument released under her name. History Gibson introduced the Country Western guitar in 1955/1956 (sources such as "Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars" say 1956, however other sources say 1955 as per this account), as a version of their pre-existing Southern Jumbo but with a natural finish, as opposed to the sunburst finish of the Southern Jumbo (SJ). Like the SJ, it featured a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, rosewood bridge and fingerboard, with Gibson's "deluxe" split parallelogram pearl inlays. Gibson Brands, Inc. (formerly Gibson Guitar Corporation) is an American manufacturer of guitars, other musical instruments, and professional audio equipment from Kalamazoo, Michigan, and now based in Nashville, Tennessee. The company was formerly known as Gibson Guitar Corporation and renamed Gibson Brands, Inc. on June 11, 2013. Gibson Southern Jumbo
The Gibson Southern Jumbo is a flat-top acoustic guitar model originally manufactured by the Gibson Guitar Corporation between 1942 and 1978. For the first 20 years of its manufacture it was a round-shouldered instrument, which changed to square-shouldered in 1962. Several modern reissues have been created by Gibson, based on the round-shouldered version. History Gibson introduced the Southern Jumbo also known as the Southerner Jumbo or SJ guitar in 1942, as a more "deluxe" version of its popular but plain J-45 model. Gibson Hummingbird
The Gibson Hummingbird is an acoustic guitar model/series produced by the Gibson Guitar Corporation. Unlike the other flat-top Gibson acoustics, the Hummingbird was Gibson's first square-shoulder dreadnought, similar to the dreadnoughts produced by C.F. Martin & Company. Introduced in 1960, the Hummingbird was Gibson's second-most expensive acoustic guitar, behind the Gibson J-200, until the introduction of the Gibson Dove in 1962, (a blend between the Hummingbird and the J-200.) and has remained in production ever since. Epiphone
Epiphone is an American musical instrument brand that traces its roots to a musical instrument manufacturing business founded in 1873 by Anastasios Stathopoulos in Smyrna, Ottoman Empire, and moved to New York City in 1908. After taking over his father's business, Epaminondas Stathopoulos named the company "Epiphone" as a combination of his own nickname "Epi" and the suffix " -phone" (from Greek ''phon-'', "voice") in 1928, the same year it began making guitars. Guitar Bracing
Guitar bracing refers to the system of wooden struts which internally support and reinforce the soundboard and back of acoustic guitars. Soundboard or top bracing transmits the forces exerted by the strings from the bridge to the rim. The luthier faces the challenge of bracing the instrument to withstand the stress applied by the strings with minimal distortion, while permitting the top to respond as fully as possible to the tones generated by the strings. Brace design contributes significantly to the type of sound a guitar will produce. According to luthiers W. Cumpiano and J. Natelson, "By varying brace design, each builder has sought to produce a sound that conformed to his concept of the ideal."
