Letitia Obeng
Letitia Eva Takyibea Obeng (10 January 1925 – 23 March 2023) was the first Ghanaian woman to obtain a degree in zoology and the first to be awarded a doctorate. She is described as "the grandmother of female scientists in Ghana". Early life and education Letitia Obeng was born at Anum in the Eastern Region (Ghana), Eastern Region on 10 January 1925. She attended a primary school in Abetifi, Kwahu and a middle school in Kyebi. Between 1939 and 1946, she had her secondary school education at Achimota College. While at school she took the London University International Examination to continue her education, courtesy of a government scholarship at the University of Birmingham (1948–1952), where she was the only African female student on the Edgbaston campus. Fred Kwasi Apaloo
Frederick Kwasi Apaloo (9 January 1921 – 2 April 2000) was a Ghanaian barrister and judge who served as Chief Justice of Kenya from 1993 to 1995 and Chief Justice of Ghana from 1977 to 1986. He is the only judge to have served on the Supreme Court of Ghana under three Ghanaian republics. Kofi Annan
Kofi Atta Annan (; 8 April 193818 August 2018) was a Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh secretary-general of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006. Annan and the UN were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize. He was the founder and chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation, as well as chairman of The Elders, an international organisation founded by Nelson Mandela. Josephine Akosua Adomako Ampofo is a Ghanaian academic who is a professor of Gender Studies and African Studies at the University of Ghana. She is feminist activist-scholar, and a strong advocate for social justice. Early life and education Ampofo's mother is German and her father is Ghanaian and Asante. Francis Agbodeka
Francis Agbodeka was a Ghanaian academic and writer. He was a professor of history at the University of Cape Coast, and the first person to obtain a doctorate degree from the University of Ghana. Early life Agbodeka was born at Anloga in the Volta Region of Ghana (then Gold Coast) on 31 December 1931 to his father Dumega Amuzu Agbodeka and mother Vincentia Agudu. Daniel Afedzi Akyeampong (24 November 1938 – 7 March 2015) was a Ghanaian academic. He was the first Ghanaian to attain full professorship status in mathematics at the University of Ghana, Legon. Marian Ewurama Addy (née Cole; 7 February 1942 – 14 January 2014) was a Ghanaian biochemist and the first Host of the National Science and Maths Quiz. The first Ghanaian woman to attain the rank of full professor of natural science, Addy became a role model for school girls and budding female scientists on the limitless opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. David Kpakpoe Acquaye is a Ghanaian academic and agriculturalist. He was a professor of Soil Science and Crop Science, and the first head of the Soil Science department of the University of Ghana. Henrietta Joy Abena Nyarko Mensa-Bonsu, (born 29 October 1957) is a Supreme Court Judge of the Republic of Ghana. She was nominated by president Nana-Akufo-Addo. Professor Aba A. Bentil Andam (born 1948) is a Ghanaian particle physicist who was President of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences from 2017–2019. She is the first Ghanaian female physicist.
