Ghadir (submarine)
''Ghadir'' ( fa, غدیر, ; named after the Ghadir Khumm) is a class of midget submarines built by Iran specifically for cruising within the shallow waters of the Persian Gulf. The Islamic Republic of Iran Navy is the sole operator of this class, whose all submarines serve in the Southern Fleet. No submarine of this class is active at the Northern Fleet, i.e. the Caspian Sea. History Iran had shown interest in midget submarines in the 1980s. According to the ''Conway's All The World's Fighting Ships'', Iran assembled a midget in Bandar Abbas that was completed in 1987 in an unsuccessful attempt. Iran reportedly purchased a second midget of another design from North Korea, delivered in 1988. It is alleged that by 1993, nine midget submarines –able to displace 76 tons surfaced and 90 tons submerged, with a top speed between and – were imported from North Korea. Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei ( fa, سید علی حسینی خامنه‌ای, ; born 19 April 1939) is a Twelver Shia ''marja''' and the second and current Supreme Leader of Iran, in office since 1989. Hoot (torpedo)
The Hoot ( fa, حوت; ''Whale'') is an Iranian supercavitation torpedo claimed to travel at approximately , several times faster than a conventional torpedo. It was claimed to have been successfully test-fired from a surface ship against a dummy submarine during the Iranian military exercise "Great Prophet" () on 2 April 2006 and 3 April 2006. Iran test-fired the torpedo within its territorial waters in the Strait of Hormuz in May 2017. The official Iranian news agency IRNA claims the torpedo was produced and developed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (). Most military and industry analysts have concluded that the Hoot is reverse engineered from the Russian VA-111 Shkval supercavitation torpedo which travels at the same speed. Valfajr (torpedo)
Valfajr is a modern homing torpedo system designed, developed, and tested by Iran's Ministry of Defence. History In 2011, it was presented by the Iranian Ministry of Defence. Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan (Iran's defence minister) and Flotilla Admiral Habibollah Sayyari (the Commander of the Iranian regular Navy) opened the production line on 13 October 2015. In the opening ceremony, Dehghan stated that "the torpedo is capable of destroying various marine targets, including large vessels, in a few seconds." In October 2015, Iran started mass-production of the Valfajr and has claimed that the weapon has now been upgraded with an anti-jamming system. The draft or draught of a ship's hull is the vertical distance between the waterline and the bottom of the hull (keel). The draught of the vessel is the maximum depth of any part of the vessel, including appendages such as rudders, propellers and drop keels if deployed. Draft determines the minimum depth of water a ship or boat can safely navigate. The related term air draft is the maximum height of any part of the vessel above the water.
