Gershon Shafat
Gershon Shafat ( he, גרשון שפט, 6 December 1927 – 16 August 2020) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Tehiya during the mid-1980s and early 1990s. Biography Born Gershon Staub in Vienna, Austria in 1927, Shafat aliyah, emigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1934. He was educated at the Moria high school in Tel Aviv, and spent two years studying history and sociology at university. He became a member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement, and later joined the National Religious Party. In 1946 he was amongst the founders of kibbutz Ein Tzurim. After the kibbutz was conquered by the Jordanian Army, he was a prisoner of war for ten months. When released, he was a member of the group that re-established Ein Tzurim in a new location. From 1956 until 1958 he worked as the manager of the Purchasing Organisation, and as the Co-ordinator of the Religious Kibbutz Movement's political committee. 1984 Israeli Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Israel on 23 July 1984 to elect the eleventh Knesset. Voter turnout was 78.8%. The results saw the Alignment return to being the largest party in the Knesset, a status it had lost in 1977 Israeli legislative election, 1977. However, the party could not form a government with any of the smaller parties, resulting in a national unity government with Likud, with both party leaders, Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Shamir, holding the post of Prime Minister of Israel, Prime Minister for two years each. Every year, a state ceremony is held at Mount Herzl, Israel's military cemetery in Jerusalem. The history of the Jews in Austria probably begins with the Jewish diaspora, exodus of Jews from History of ancient Israel and Judah#Roman occupation, Judea under Roman occupation. Elections for the 13th Knesset were held in Israel on 23 June 1992. The election resulted in the formation of a Labor government, led by Yitzhak Rabin, helped by the failure of several small right wing parties to pass the electoral threshold. Voter turnout was 77.4%.
