Ludwig Derleth
Ludwig Benjamin Derleth (3 November 1870 – 13 January 1948) was a German writer and poet, known for his highly-stylized and anti-humanistic writings on spirituality and Christianity. Life Derleth was born in 1870 in Gerolzhofen, Lower Franconia, Bavaria, at what is today Ludwig-Derleth-Strasse 4. He had a younger sister named Anna-Maria (1874-1955). After studying philosophy and literature, Derleth worked as a college-level teacher of ancient languages. In 1898 while visiting Paris, he met the symbolist poet Stefan George. While living in Munich, he became closer to George's entourage, as well as the Munich Cosmic Circle based around Alfred Schuler and Ludwig Klages, which broke up in 1904. Derleth was the subject of verses in two cyclical poems by George: his 1907 ''Der Siebenten Ring'' ("The Seventh Ring"), and his 1914 ''Der Stern des Bundes'' ("The Star of the Covenant"). Schweinfurt is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the northwestern part of Bavaria, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Bad Kissingen, Rhön-Grabfeld, Haßberge, Bamberg, Kitzingen, Würzburg and Main-Spessart. The district-free city Schweinfurt is surrounded by the district. Geography Primary rivers in the district are the Main and the Wern. Winfried Nöth
Winfried Nöth (born September 12, 1944 in Gerolzhofen) is a German linguist and semiotician. After graduating from high school in 1963 in Brunswick, from 1965 to 1969 Nöth studied English, French and Portuguese in Münster, Geneva, Lisbon and Bochum, and in 1971 acquired his doctoral degrees at the Ruhr University Bochum. In Bochum he also habilitated in 1976 and became assistant to Walter A. Koch. After teaching in Bochum and Aachen, in 1978 he was appointed full professor in English Linguistics at the University of Kassel. Pia Beckmann
Pia Beckmann (born May 14, 1963 in Gerolzhofen, Bavaria) is a doctor of philology, was a German politician, representative of the Christian Social Union of Bavaria and an entrepreneur. In 2002 she was elected as mayor (Oberbürgermeisterin) of Würzburg as the first woman in Würzburg's history. In 2008 the CSU again sent her as its candidate for mayorship, with a majority of 93%. She was one of five candidates and won the first ballot with 41,3 %, which was more than 16% better than the next candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SPD. In the second ballot, which was to be held between the two with the most votes, she only could cast 47,5 % of the votes and by this lost the run-off. In 2008 Beckmann founded her own consulting firm. In 2010 she became shareholder and managing partner of the company clean energy GmbH.
