Germany In The Eurovision Song Contest 2008
Germany participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song " Disappear" written by Remee, Thomas Troelsen and Hanne Sørvaag. The song was performed by No Angels. The German entry for the 2008 contest in Belgrade, Serbia, was selected through the national final ''Wer singt für Deutschland?'', organised by the German broadcaster ARD in collaboration with Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR). The national final took place on 6 March 2008 and featured five competing acts with the winner being selected through two rounds of public voting. "Disappear" performed by No Angels was selected as the German entry for Belgrade after gaining 50.5% of the vote in the second round. No Angels
No Angels are an all-female pop group from Germany, formed in 2000. Originally a quintet, consisting of band members Nadja Benaissa, Lucy Diakovska, Sandy Mölling, Vanessa Petruo, and Jessica Wahls, they originated on the debut season of the German adaptation of the talent series ''Popstars'' and were one of the first television-cast acts to achieve sustainable success throughout Central Europe in the early 2000s. Texas Lightning (band)
Texas Lightning is a German quintet from Hamburg which fits in the country music genre and describes itself as old fashioned and hip. Their music is a mix of country and pop drawing from country classic stars like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash and Tammy Wynette and pop stars such as ABBA, Nancy Sinatra, Linda Ronstadt, Madonna, Michael Jackson and the Beatles, performed with some country humour. Tetje Mierendorf (born 18 April 1972) is a German comedian, musical theatre actor and voice actor. Biography Mierendorf was born in Hamburg. After his ''Abitur'', he completed an apprenticeship as bank teller. In 2004, he played the leading part of the German adaption of ''My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance''. Oliver Pocher (born 18 February 1978) is a German comedian, entertainer, television personality and host. Early life and professional training Pocher is the son of Gerhard and Jutta Pocher; he was born and grew up in Hanover, West Germany. His parents are Jehovah's Witnesses and he too was raised as one. In 2007, Pocher stated that, unlike his parents, he had no contact with the organisation anymore as he claimed "not to have agreed with their rules". Katja Ebstein
Katja Ebstein (born Karin Witkiewicz; 9 March 1945) is a German singer. She was born in Girlachsdorf (now Gniewków, Poland). She achieved success with songs such as "Theater" and "Es war einmal ein Jäger". She was married to , who wrote many of her songs. Ebstein represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest three times, in 1970, 1971 and 1980. She also took part in Ein Lied für Stockholm in 1975 with the song "Ich liebe dich", placing 5th in the selection. . Her best performance was in 1980 when she gained second place with the entry "Theater", her other two songs " Wunder gibt es immer wieder" and " Diese Welt" each came to third places.
