Germany In The Eurovision Song Contest 1980
Germany was represented by Katja Ebstein, with the song "Theater", at the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 19 April in The Hague. "Theater" was the winner of the German national final, held on 20 March. This was Ebstein's third Eurovision appearance; she had previously represented Germany in 1970 and 1971, finishing third on both occasions. Before Eurovision Ein Lied für Den Haag The final was held at the Bayerischer Rundfunk TV studios in Munich, hosted by Carolin Reiber and Thomas Gottschalk. 12 songs took part and the winner was chosen by a panel of approximately 1,000 people who had been selected as providing a representative cross-section of the German public. Katja Ebstein
Katja Ebstein (born Karin Witkiewicz; 9 March 1945) is a German singer. She was born in Girlachsdorf (now Gniewków, Poland). She achieved success with songs such as "Theater" and "Es war einmal ein Jäger". She was married to , who wrote many of her songs. Ebstein represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest three times, in 1970, 1971 and 1980. She also took part in Ein Lied für Stockholm in 1975 with the song "Ich liebe dich", placing 5th in the selection. . Her best performance was in 1980 when she gained second place with the entry "Theater", her other two songs " Wunder gibt es immer wieder" and " Diese Welt" each came to third places. As noted by John Kennedy O'Connor in his book ''The Eurovision Song Contest – The Official History'', Ebstein is the most successful performer to have taken part in the contest without ever winning. Costa Cordalis ( el, Κώστας Κορδαλής; born Konstantinos Cordalis; 1 May 19442 July 2019) was a Greek-German Schlager singer. Biography Born Konstantinos Cordalis in Elateia, Phthiotis, Cordalis moved to Germany in 1960. His 1976 song "Anita" reached the top ten in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. In 2004, he took part in, and won, the reality television game show ''Ich bin ein Star – Holt mich hier raus!''. Adam & Eve was a German schlager music duo who had several hit records in Germany in the 1960s and 1970s. There are two incarnations of the duo. First incarnation Eva Bartova (March 26, 1938, Bohemia - September 17, 1989, Chicago) emigrated to Germany in 1963, having studied classical ballet and voice in Czechoslovakia. She began recording with a group known as Eve Bartova & the Bartovs, where she met John Christian Dee (February 1944, Tonawanda - August 18, 2004, London), an American who had moved to England in the 1950s. Stefan Waggershausen (born 20 February 1949) is a German singer, composer, and songwriter. Waggershausen was born in Friedrichshafen, at Lake Constance. Roland Kaiser (born Ronald Keiler; 10 May 1952) is a German Schlager singer. He is one of the most successful German-speaking Schlager singers. Keiler was born in West Berlin. He was working as a marketing executive in a car firm where he was discovered by German music producer Gerd Kämpfe. In 1974, he released his first single under the stage name of Roland Kaiser, titled "Was ist wohl aus ihr geworden?", and in 1976 he got his first chart placement with "Frei, das heißt allein", which reached number 14 on the West German top list. Marianne Rosenberg (born 10 March 1955) is a German Schlager music singer and songwriter. Personal background Rosenberg is of Roma and Sinti background. Her father, Otto, an Auschwitz death camp survivor, was an activist on Roma and Sinti issues. Her sister, Petra, also advocates for Roma issues.
