Germany At The 1952 Winter Olympics
Germany competed at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, Norway after not having been invited to the 1948 Winter Olympics because of their role in World War II, and because the NOC restored in 1947 as Deutscher Olympischer Ausschuß did not represent a recognized state yet. The Federal Republic of Germany was founded in 1949, the '' NOC for Germany'' was renamed and in 1951 recognized by the IOC while recognition of a separate '' NOC of the GDR'' was declined. East Germans were told to cooperate in a single team Germany, which they declined in 1952, but accepted for 1956 and later. Germany entered all events except the 1500 metres skating event, which was skipped by Germany's only speed skating entrant in favour of the other three events. Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund
The German Olympic Sports Confederation (german: Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund or DOSB) was founded on 20 May 2006 by a merger of the ''Deutscher Sportbund'' (DSB), and the ''Nationales Olympisches Komitee für Deutschland'' (NOK) which dates back to 1895, the year it was founded and recognized as NOC by the IOC. He won two bronze medals at the FIBT World Championships, winning them in the two-man event in 1953 and in the four-man event in 1954. Lorenz Nieberl
Lorenz Nieberl (sometimes spelled as Lorenz Niebert; 7 July 1919, in Munich, Germany – 12 April 1968) was a West German bobsledder who competed in the early 1950s. At the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, he became the first person to win both the two-man and four-man competitions at the same Winter Olympics. Andreas Ostler
Andreas Benedikt Ostler (21 January 1921 – 24 November 1988), known as "Anderl", was a German bobsledder who competed in the early 1950s. As a teenager during the 1936 Winter Olympics in his home town, Anderl Ostler and future teammates at :de:Sportclub (SC) Riessersee became interested in winter sports. The games in 1940 and 1944 were canceled during the war, and Germany was not invited to the 1948 Winter Olympics. At the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, he became the first person to steer both the two-man and four-man bob to gold medals at the same Winter Olympics, together with Lorenz Nieberl pushing and braking. Ossi Reichert
Rosa "Ossi" Reichert (25 December 1925 – 16 July 2006) was a German alpine skier. Her greatest victory was in the 1956 Winter Olympics giant slalom at Cortina d'Ampezzo, Germany's sole gold medal at these games (and Germany's first gold medal in Olympics after the Second World War). After having seriously injured an ankle in 1954, she was not expected to do well at these games. She also drew the #1 start position for the one-run event. Josefa „Putzi“ Frandl, who won the silver medal in the event, once stated that, "Ossi was disappointed to draw #1 as that was usually not a good position. The first racer down the course usually has to scrape off a bit of snow, which slows you down. But Ossi had a great run and overcame that difficulty."
