German Creek, South Australia
German Creek is a rural locality in south-eastern South Australia, situated in the District Council of Grant. The boundaries were formalised in October 1995 for the long established name. The postcode was originally 5280, but was altered to 5291 in 2004. It was reportedly named for a German who was shepherding in the area. History The German Creek area was offered to the government for closer settlement purposes in 1911; however, while the government purchased the nearby Moorak estate, it declined to purchase land at German Creek, and the area was privately subdivided. It was renamed Benara Creek in 1918, one of many German-themed named places in South Australia to be renamed during World War I; however, it reverted to its original name in 1986. The South Eastern Times
The ''South Eastern Times'' is a newspaper established in Millicent, South Australia in 1891, advertised on its masthead as covering the area which includes Millicent, Robe, Beachport, Tantanoola, Kalangadoo and Southend. After 129 years of publishing, however, the newspaper (along with sister publication ''The Pennant'') was discontinued on 21 August 2020. However, in March 2022 the newspaper was relaunched by TBW Today Pty Ltd after an 18 month hiatus. History A weekly paper named the ''Millicent Times'' was founded in July 1891 by Roland Campbell and was taken over in 1894 by his brother Donald Campbell. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website.
