Gerhard Mans (rugby Union)
Gerhard Mans (19 April 1962 – 4 May 2022) was a Namibian rugby union player. He was the father of Gerhard Mans, who represented Namibia in cycling. Playing career Born in Karasburg, a small town in southern South West Africa (now Namibia), Mans attended school in Gobabis and after school moved to Bloemfontein, South Africa for tertiary studies at the University of the Orange Free State. He made his senior provincial debut in South Africa for the Orange Free State in 1982 and in 1985 returned to his home country. At the time South West Africa participated in the South African domestic rugby competitions. In 1987 Mans was appointed captain of South West Africa and under his leadership during 1987, South West Africa won the B division of the Currie Cup and gained promotion to the A division for the 1988 season. Karasburg
Karasburg ( naq, ǀNomsoros, old name af, Kalkfontein, literally "carst spring") is a town of 4,000 inhabitants in the ǁKaras Region of southern Namibia and the district capital of the Karasburg electoral constituency. It lies at the heart of the southern Namibian sheep farming industry. Location There are three main routes that lead into Karasburg. From Grünau in the west, Onseepkans in the south and the B3 national road that leads to the South African border in the east. The town lies south of Windhoek, north of Cape Town and 110 km west of the Ariamsvlei border post. Karasburg is the only relatively large town south of Keetmanshoop in Namibia. The 1987 Currie Cup was the 49th edition of the Currie Cup, the premier annual domestic rugby union competition in South Africa. The tournament was won by for the 14th time; they beat 24–18 in the final at the Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg. Naas Botha scored all the points for Northern Transvaal by kicking 4 penalties and 4 drop-goals. Teams Competition Regular season and title play-offs There were seven participating teams in the 1987 Currie Cup Division A and five in the Division B. These teams played each other twice over the course of the season, once at home and once away. Teams received two points for a win and one points for a draw. Arabian Gulf Rugby Union Team
The Arabian Gulf rugby union team was a combined team of players that represented the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council in international rugby union competitions. The team competed in international matches between 1993 and 2010, and was governed by the Arabian Gulf Rugby Football Union (AGRFU). Associate members were Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan. The Arabian Gulf participated in the highest tier of the inaugural 2008 Asian Five Nations alongside Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Kazakhstan. After losing all four of their matches and subsequently finishing last, the team was relegated to Division One for the 2009 tournament. The team proceeded to win Division One in 2009, securing promotion to the Asian Five Nations for 2010. Police Grounds, Harare
The Police Grounds are a set of cricket grounds in Harare. Located at the Morris Police Depot, the grounds have played host to first-class cricket. The 'A' ground first hosted first-class cricket in 1957, when Rhodesia played the touring Australians. The 'A' ground hosted 29 first-class matches for Rhodesia until 1968, most of which came in the Currie Cup. The 'B' ground began hosting first-class cricket in 1970, with Rhodesia playing against Transvaal. The 'B' ground hosted 27 first-class matches for Rhodesia until 1980, the majority of which came in the Currie Cup. The 'B' ground also played host to seven List A one-day matches from 1970 to 1978. In addition to hosting cricket matches, the grounds have also hosted rugby union matches for the Zimbabwe rugby union team. 1995 Rugby World Cup – Africa Qualification
For the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa, the Confederation of African Rugby was allocated one direct qualifying place (Africa 1) in addition to the automatic qualifying place granted to as host of tournament. Seven teams participated in the qualification tournament. The teams were split into two pools for the first stage held in 1993, with the matches in Pool A taking place in Nairobi and the matches in Pool B being played in Tunis. the two top teams in each pool progressed to the second stage which was another round robin held at Casablanca in 1994. was the first placed team after the second stage and secured qualification for the 1995 tournament. Portugal National Rugby Union Team
The Portugal national rugby union team (Portuguese: Seleção Portuguesa de Rugby), nicknamed Os Lobos (''The Wolves''), represents Portugal in men's international rugby union competitions. The team as well as all rugby union in Portugal is administered by the Federação Portuguesa de Rugby. Portugal qualified for their first Rugby World Cup in 2007 where they were grouped in Pool C along with New Zealand, Italy, Romania and Scotland. They are nicknamed Os Lobos.
