Gerhard Beil
Gerhard Beil (28 May 1926, Leipzig – 19 August 2010, Berlin) was a politician for the SED and the Minister for Foreign Trade of the GDR. Life After completing primary school, Beil trained as a commercial clerk. From 1943 to 1945 he was with the Reich Labor Service. In April 1944 he applied for membership in the NSDAP, but was rejected in October 1944. In 1945 he became a locksmith and worked in the sales department of I.G. Farben in Frankfurt am Main (1946/1947), as a machinist in the brown coal plant Espenhain, miner at Wismut AG Aue (1949) and steel locksmith in Leipzig (1950 to 1952). In 1949 Beil joined the FDJ. He studied in Berlin from 1953/1954 at the Hochschule für Planökonomie and until 1957 at the Humboldt-Universität with a degree in economics. In 1953 he joined the SED. The Left (Germany)
The Left (german: Die Linke; stylised as and in its logo as ), commonly referred to as the Left Party (german: Die Linkspartei, links=no ), is a democratic socialist political party in Germany. The party was founded in 2007 as the result of the merger of the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) and Labour and Social Justice – The Electoral Alternative. A politburo () or political bureau is the executive committee for communist parties. It is present in most former and existing communist states. Arno Donda
Arno Donda (28 April 1930 – 24 November 2008) was an East German economist and statistician. Between July 1963 and October 1990 he was in charge of the East German Statistical Authority (''"Staatliche Zentralverwaltung für Statistik"''). Life Arno Donda was born in Berlin. His father worked as a typesetter. He attended middle school in Rumburg and Berlin before transferring, in 1947, to an apprenticeship with the main office of the statistic office in the region that was, by this time, administered as the Soviet occupation zone. He left the school before attempting school final exams (''"Abitur"''), but by attending evening classes he was able to sit for and passed these exams in 1949 in Berlin as an external student, which opened the way to a university-level education. Alexander Schalck-Golodkowski (3 July 1932 – 21 June 2015) was a politician and trader in the German Democratic Republic. Ernst Höfner (Politician)
Ernst Höfner (1 October 1929 – 24 November 2009) was Finance Minister of the German Democratic Republic. Born in Berlin, Höfner graduated with a degree in business. In the 1960s, he was a secretary in the finance ministry. From 1970 to 1976 he was deputy minister of finance. From 1976 to 1979 he was first secretary of SED's department for central bank and financial organs. And from 1979 to 1981 he was also first secretary of the national planning commission. Gerhard Schürer
Gerhard Schürer (14 April 1921 – 22 December 2010) was a leading politician in East Germany. Between 1963 and 1989 he was a member of the powerful Central Committee of the country's ruling SED (party). He also served, between 1965 and 1989, as chairman of the State Planning Commission of East Germany's Council of Ministers. It is one mark of his importance that during the 1980s Schürer lived with his family at House 7 in the Wandlitz residential estate. Wandlitz was the exclusive Berlin enclave where the top party officials lived. House 7 was a large house, with space to accommodate his (at this stage) second wife and seven children. A previous occupant had been Chairman Walter Ulbricht.
