Gerda Schmidt-Panknin
Gerda Schmidt-Panknin (9 August 1920 – 5 March 2021) was a German painter. The artist lived and worked in Kappeln. She studied at the Bremen art academy in the 1940s. Works Painting was the main media of Gerda Schmidt-Panknin. She preferred to combine oil or acrylic painting with other techniques like crayon. In the paintings of the 1960s to the 1980s she mixed sand and other materials into the paint. Since the 1950s and her first travels to Greece these travel experiences (later to USSR, Scandinavia, Iceland and Greenland) were the main inspiration for her work. Influence Due to her practice as art teacher, Schmidt-Panknin influenced many younger artists like Peter Nagel or Nicolaus Schmidt. Husum
Husum (, frr, Hüsem) is the capital of the ''Kreis'' (district) Nordfriesland in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The town was the birthplace of the novelist Theodor Storm, who coined the epithet "the grey town by the sea". It is also the home of the annual international piano festival ''Raritäten der Klaviermusik'' (Rarities of Piano Music) founded in 1986. History Husum was first mentioned as ''Husembro'' in 1252, when king Abel was murdered. Like most towns on the North Sea, Husum was always strongly influenced by storm tides. In 1362 a disastrous storm tide, the "Grote Mandrenke" flooded the town and carved out the inland harbour. Before this date Husum was not situated directly on the coast. Nicolaus Schmidt
Nicolaus Schmidt (born 1 January 1953) is a German artist, photographer and historian. He studied at the Hamburg Art Academy (HfBK) in the 1970s. In 1975, he founded ROSA, one of Germany’s first gay magazines. During the 1980s, he was a volunteer with the German branch of the children’s rights organization Terre des Hommes, serving for a time as its chairman. Since 1991, he has been living and making art in the Berlin neighborhood of Prenzlauer Berg. Public works Nicolaus was born Arnis, West Germany. In 1982, he created the Cerro Rico Aktion with 100,000 tin cans. In this work, the artist created an outdoor installation inspired by his interest in Third World affairs. The Province of Schleswig-Holstein (german: Provinz Schleswig-Holstein ) was a province of the Kingdom of Prussia (subsequently the Free State of Prussia after 1918) from 1868 to 1946.
