Gerda Holmes
Gerda Holmes, née Gerda Helen Elfrida Henius (April 2, 1891 – October 11, 1943), was an actress during the silent film era and in theater. She had major roles in numerous films including '' The Fable of Elvira and Farina and the Meal Ticket'' (1915) and ''The Iron Ring'' (1917) with Arthur Ashley. Holmes was Danish Her grandfather managed the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen for more than two decades, and her father was a doctor in Chicago. She studied music in Denmark and began performing on stage there at about age 14. Her first marriage was to Rapley Holmes. The cover of the December 1916 issue of ''The Masses'' magazine featured a "stylish and very modern" portrait of Holmes by Frank Walts. Holbrook Blinn
Holbrook Blinn was an American stage and film actor. Early years Blinn was the son of Civil War veteran Col. Charles Blinn and actress Nellie Holbrook-Blinn. He was born in San Francisco and attended Stanford University before he began a career in acting. Biography Blinn debuted on stage as an adult early in the 1890s with a traveling company in the western United States. By 1892 he had moved to the East, acting for two seasons in ''The New South''. Following that experience, he headed the first dramatic troupe to tour in Alaska. Blinn had appeared on the legitimate stage at age 6, in ''The Streets of London'', and played throughout the United States and in London. He appeared in silent films, and was the director of popular one-act plays at New York's Princess Theatre. He also was one of the founders of that theatre. Ethel Clayton (November 8, 1882 – June 6, 1966) was an American actress of the silent film era. Early years Born in Champaign, Illinois, Clayton attended St. Elizabeth's school in Chicago. Career Clayton debuted on stage as a professional as a member of the chorus in a production at the Chicago Opera House. After that, she worked with stock theater companies in Milwaukee and Minneapolis. On stage, Clayton appeared mainly in musicals or musical revues such as ''The Ziegfeld Follies of 1911''. Clara Whipple ''(née'' Clara or Clarissa or Clarise Brimmer Whipple; November 7, 1887 – November 6, 1932) was an American actress who flourished in theatre from 1913 to 1915 and in silent film from 1915 to 1919. She was also a silent film scenario writer. Early years Whipple was born in Saint Louis. Sometime before 1910, she had attended school in Germany, on the wooded isle of Nönnenwerth, at Trier, and at Eschweiler. Hildegard zur Bonsen (born 1889; Prussia) of Göttingen was her classmate and friend at all three locations. Whipple's biography states that she was educated at a convent in Germany and a finishing school in Switzerland. A 1915 article in '' The St. Louis Star'' stated that Whipple left Saint Louis "early in life to go to a school in Ohio" (Ursuline Convent) "and later went to Ladycliff, on the Hudson." Willard Mack (September 18, 1873 – November 18, 1934) was a Canadian-American actor, director, and playwright. Life and career He was born Charles Willard McLaughlin in Morrisburg, Ontario. At an early age his family moved to Brooklyn, New York. After two years, they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where McLaughlin finished high school. His parents returned to Canada, but he went on to study at Georgetown University in Washington, D. C., where he became involved in student plays. Adopting the stage name Willard Mack, after graduation he took minor acting jobs for a few years and did Shakespearian repertoire. However, writing scripts was what he was most interested in, and his second effort, about the North-West Mounted Police, ''In Wyoming'', was a commercial success and was later the basis for his film ''Nanette of the Wilds''.
