Gastroesophageal Reflux
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) is one of the upper gastrointestinal chronic diseases where stomach content persistently and regularly flows up into the esophagus, resulting in symptoms and/or complications. Symptoms include dental corrosion, dysphagia, heartburn, odynophagia, regurgitation, non-cardiac chest pain, extraesophageal symptoms such as chronic cough, hoarseness, reflux-induced laryngitis, or asthma. On the long term, and when not treated, complications such as esophagitis, esophageal stricture, and Barrett's esophagus may arise. Risk factors include obesity, pregnancy, smoking, hiatal hernia, and taking certain medications. Medications that may cause or worsen the disease include benzodiazepines, calcium channel blockers, tricyclic antidepressants, NSAIDs, and certain asthma medicines. Ger Feeney
Ger Feeney ( 1954 – 10 October 2010) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for the Mayo county team. Personal life Feeney was a native of Cortoon, Ballintubber, and studied at Ballinafad College. He was a highly regarded GAA player in the 1970s. He won a minor All-Ireland title in 1971 and an U21 winners medal in 1974. He made his championship debut for Mayo in 1972 against Sligo at McHale Park, Castlebar. His sons Richie and Alan Feeney, and his nephew, John Feeney, are all members of the Mayo football squad. One of his brothers was a Mayo county secretary, Sean Feeney. Death He and his close friend, businessman Donal McEllin, drowned in a boating accident off Inishbofin in October 2010. Ger Robinson
Ger Robinson (born 9 June 1982 in Dunboyne) is an Irish football striker, who last played for Kildare County in the League of Ireland. He is also involved in Gaelic football and has managed the Meath under-20 county team. Biography Robinson was signed by Middlesbrough as an apprentice at age 14 and trained alongside the likes of Fabrizio Ravanelli, Juninho and Paul Gascoigne as a youngster with Middlesbrough. Despite showing promise, he was never promoted to the senior team, and after ITV digital went bankrupt he returned to Ireland on loan at Dundalk F.C. Ger Reidy (Irish: Gearóid Ó Riada), is a GAA goalkeeper currently playing for Castleisland Desmonds and Kerry. He made his intercounty debut in the National League fixture vs. Donegal in Austin Stack Park, Tralee. He went on to play in 3 further matches in Kerry's ultimately successful 2009 Allianz National Football League Division 1 campaign against Derry, Westmeath and Galway conceding only one goal (to Galway). Ger McDonnell
Gerard McDonnell (20 January 1971 – 2 August 2008), mountaineer and engineer, was the first Irishman to reach the summit of K2, the second- highest mountain on Earth, in August 2008. He lost his life along with 10 other mountaineers following an avalanche on the descent, in the deadliest accident in the history of K2 mountaineering. Biography McDonnell was born in Kilcornan, County Limerick. A decade before his K2 success, he had moved to Anchorage, Alaska. He hoped not only to work there but also to develop his skills as a mountaineer. McDonnell was well known in Anchorage's Irish community. Among his interests was playing the bodhrán in a band. Ger Maycock
Ger Mayock (8 December 1970 – 7 May 2006) was an Irish artist. Mayock was a native of Ross West near Castlebar, County Mayo, moving to Dublin 1988 to study Film at Dún Laoghaire College of Art and Design. He graduated in 1993 and in that year directed a film entitled ‘War’, which was subsequently screened in Ireland and at film festivals in Europe. Mayock lived and worked in New York City, Paris and Prague before returning to Ireland in 1996. In 2002 he settled in County Leitrim to study at the Sculpture Centre in Manorhamilton, working on wood, stone and bronze. In 2003, Mayock collaborated on a biodiversity project for Kew Gardens, London, creating a sculpture which became part of the garden; it stretched eleven metres long, three metres high. A granite sculpture he finished in 2004 is now a permanent feature of the grounds of Farmleigh House, County Dublin. Ger Manley (born 13 January 1968) is an Irish former hurler and Gaelic footballer. At club level he played with Inniscarra, Midleton and Muskerry and was also a member of the Cork senior hurling team. Playing career Manley first played Gaelic football and hurling with the Inniscarra club. He won a Mid Cork JAFC title with the club in 1989, while he also lined out with the Muskerry divisional team as a dual player. Manley first appeared on the inter-county scene as a member of the Cork minor team that won the 1985 All-Ireland MHC title. Ger Lynch
Ger Lynch (born 10 December 1958) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played as a wing back at senior level for the Kerry county team. Lynch made his first appearance for the team during the 1982 championship and became a regular player over subsequent seasons until his retirement in 1989. During that time he won three All-Ireland winners' medals, three Munster winners' medals, one National Football League winners' medal and one All-Star award. Ger Loughnane
Gerard "Ger" Loughnane (born 27 January 1953) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a right wing-back for the Clare senior team. Born in Feakle, County Clare, Loughnane first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St. Flannan's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Clare minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1972-73 National Hurling League. Loughnane immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won two National Hurling League medals. He was a Munster runner-up on five occasions. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team at various times throughout his career, Loughnane won three Railway Cup medals.
