Georgette Cottin-Euziol
Georgette Cottin-Euziol (7 May 1926 - 11 April 2004) was a French Algerian architect, one of the first women architects in both countries. Early life Georgette Cottin was born on 7 May 1926 at El Affroun in Algeria, daughter of Céline Rosalie Lecucq, a teacher and Gabriel Louis Cottin, an engineer. Education During World War Two, whilst a student at l’École des beaux-arts d’Alger she took part in Resistance actions against the Vichy regime in Algiers. She met Henri Alleg during this time, and served as an intermediary with the leaders of the Jeunesses Communistes, supplying a typewriter and roneo saved from the headquarters of the Youth Hostels of Algiers which made it possible to publish a few issues of the Jeune Garde newspaper. She joined the Algerian section of the French Communist Party at the age of 17. Women in architecture have been documented for many centuries, as professional (or amateur) practitioners, educators and clients. Since architecture became organized as a profession in 1857, the number of women in architecture has been low. At the end of the 19th century, starting in Finland, certain schools of architecture in Europe began to admit women to their programmes of study. In 1980 M. Rosaria Piomelli, born in Italy, became the first woman to hold a deanship of any school of architecture in the United States, as Dean of the City College of New York School of Architecture. However, only in recent years have women begun to achieve wider recognition with several outstanding participants including five Pritzker prizewinners since the turn of the millennium. Breil-sur-Roya (, literally ''Breil on Roya''; it, Breglio sul Roia or simply ''Breglio''; lij, Breggio; oc, Brelh de Ròia) is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in southeastern France. Population Geography Breil-sur-Roya as its name says is located on the scenic and fast moving river Roya within the river's gorge and along the adjacent escarpments. The area features river rafting, swimming, and hiking. Breil-sur-Roya is one of the towns on the route of the SNCF Train des Merveilles which runs between Nice and Cuneo in Italy.
